Great app but with plenty of room for improvement
I love using this app for its clear topos and ukc linking ability. I like the fact that I was able to trade in my previous purchases to use as credit for the subscription service.
I do wish some areas were more extensively covered and not just the ‘best of’ routes. I’d also love to have a desktop version available for Mac. I was told that it was in the works when I asked a couple of years back, however have heard nothing. The app can be hard to navigate sometimes when the ‘swipe up’ options seemingly don’t respond. I’ve also experienced completly different topo results on mine and a friends device despite both being updated at the same time.
On the whole I do love the ‘everything available’ aspect of the subscription service, but would like a little more for my £5 a month.
Great app
Much cheaper than the guide books, if you climb in lots of different places. Also, always up to date. Pretty reasonable at £5 a month (you can just pay the months you want to use it).
Too many routes missing
Guys you need to update this app! It’s useful but considering its a paid subscription app I’d expect it to be up to date at least as much as the books. Half the time I find that routes are just not shown in the app. I’ll be sticking to the books in future.
Good information but apps ux needs improving
The information the app provides is amazing but some key features seem to be missing.
Some improvements I’d love to see:
The ability to favourite crags. You can do it for individual routes but not for a crag.
The ability to view a map of a book e.g. Scottish sport climbs. Without having to come out of that section and go into the general map tab at the bottom.
Good app overall
I’m a new user to the app having previously used Rockfax in book form. I love the concept and the idea of an all you can eat subscription to the Rockfax portfolio.
Pros
1. Great photos of routes
2. Maps of the crags
3. Log book/wish list of routes is excellent
Cons
1. Maps don’t work without internet, even when a book is downloaded for offline usage. This came as quite a shock yesterday when we arrived 2. I was initially under impression this contained all of the Rockfax book info. This isn’t the case. E.g info on how to set up anchors at particular crags that is in the guidebook is left off the app. I found this disappointing and unsure why this was done.
Overall, this a great app and I hope it has a long future ahead.
Great addition to guide books
Not knowing what guide books to buy Rockfax seemed like a good stepping stone. The ability to download guides is a massive bonus and extremely helpfull when half way up and need some guidence. The UI could do with some improvements. UKC integration is a bit odd/confusing. Log book displays route guide description rather than your personal log, which is hidden behind the Tick icon which isn’t obvious. Personal notes should be displayed in the rout guide as well for way viewing when finding routes. Basically Fixing obvious UI/UX issues would get a 5stars.
Love it!
This app is a must have for every climber, every book you need in your pocket, I’ve used it in the UK and abroad, it’s accurate, easy to use and definitely a necessity in my opinion, well worth the money
Convenient
Great app. Crag issues seem to be fixed now. :)
Useful app, unfortunately very unstable
Really useful app. Navigation is easy, route information is as good as the books, ability to log your routes and find them again easily is great. Unfortunately it regularly crashes - scroll up to 3 pages and every time will need to restart the app and re navigate to where you were. All of my friends that use the app have the same problem. Such a shame.
Used to be great but now crashes regularly
Used this app for a while and find it really beneficial when out and about (especially the GPS feature). However in recent months it repeatedly crashes, making it unusable :( hope this will be resolved in future update
