I have have been using Security Spy software for many years. I have tried using the SecSpy app on numerous iPads and iPhones for many years as well. I use the latest Netgear Orbi routers, and have had a Nighthawk as well. The app does not connect. Port Forwarding is turned on, and UPnP enabled. I have no problem with other applications. I have corresponded many times with the developer and have complied with everything he said. He says it SHOULD work. The only solutions he offers are all of the expensive other options besides port forwarding. This product is wothless.
Remember, this is just a viewer
I've used Security Spy to protect my house for about 8 years, with no problems whatsoever. It's stable, and the developer continues to make incremental improvements and updates. Unlike "point and shoot" consumer products, this program allows a wide range of controls over video streaming and recording formats. The downside is that if you're like me you're going to fiddle around and make things worse while you're getting your at-home degree in video engineering!
This iOS app is simply a handy way to check your cameras in real time, and to view or download whatever recordings Security Spy has made. I suspect most of the problems other reviewers have encountered are from bandwidth limitations, the limited graphics capabilities of older iPads, or simply asking too much from this accessory. If one needs remote access to the full capabilities of Security Spy, use a Remote Desktop solution, of which there are many.
10yr SS veteran. Fantastic
I use the AppleTV app every day. The back end and the front end are rock solid for me. In over 10 years I think SS on Mac has only crashed three times. The ATV version recently got an update where the streamed videos look much better on my 4K TV’s. Thank you Ben. I will always be a loyal customer. Motion detection could use some tweaking but headlights are always going to be trouble I suppose.
No way to search
Been using this app for a while now. There’s no way of searching for a specific date and time without having to roll through to the date and time you want to view.
Miss the the slow motion play speed
Please bring back the slow motion play speed.
Don’t need 5 seconds
Awesome software
Works really well with its mac os paired software.
Keeps getting worse with each of the
The playback on SecuritySpy keeps getting worse each update. I have owned a copy of this since 2020 you used to be able to do visual scrubbing on the computer and now you can’t do that. That really brought things down because finding details it became very hard now the app is getting the same way. This latest update the claims to improve stuff is absolutely the worst you can only got five seconds at a time and when you have 24 hours to go through it’s painstaking. Especially because you can only go five seconds forward and not back and there is no visual fingers scrubbing as there was before. I thought t for this guy. We are after spending a lot of money on this and spending a lot of time learning it. We are new because he’s not listening to what people want.
Probably my most important app
Been using SecuritySpy app and the desktop version for several years. Features and usability are excellent. Reliability and speed (important!) exceed any reasonable expectation. Support is prompt and friendly, often from Ben personally. It doesn’t get much better than this, folks.
Hands-Down Best Security Camera Software For Mac!
Yes, the IOS version of SecuritySpy was released about five years ago and initially had some issues, of course, which have long been corrected. I have used the MacOS version for about 10 years and rank it among the best for support, innovation and reliability. Ben’s personal commitment to this product is beyond any reasonable expectation. I have 12 cameras recording 24/7 with both vehicle and human motion detection to alert me of unexpected approaches. If I have an issue, Ben’s personal response is prompt and courteous. Problems admittedly were my fault for not reading the very clearly written user manual!
Look elsewhere for cctv software
I’ve had several versions of this product and none of them work easily or reliably. Sometimes they will function properly for a week or two but inevitably they crash and if you don’t check the system routinely you could be left with days weeks or months of unrecorded footage. The developer is pretty greedy and charges for updates and adding additional cameras to the software. Fortunately camera manufacturers and others are now releasing free or very low cost software that does everything this product does and more
