Communication at home takes many forms — we want more of the dinner-time conversations, but we could do with less of the loud knocking on doors, banging on ceilings, and shouting up stairs. If you have a HomeKit home, why not take advantage of it, and use your lights to help communicate?
Introducing Signals for HomeKit, the best way to communicate in the home, without all the shouting.
Signals works with any of your bulbs, switches or outlets with lights attached - have a kid who plays video games with headphones on? Just tap on their light to give it a few flashes.
Take it to a new level with the Signals Plus In-App Purchase, and put some meaning behind your flashes:
- Create a Time to Go Signal to flash the kids bedroom lights, and then set their night lights green
- A Dinner Time Signal can pulse lights in the bedrooms and the office, and then set them to blue
- Even setup a “GET DOWN HERE NOW” signal, to flash the kids’ lights red, and keep them that way!
Trigger your Signals in multiple ways — in the app, with your voice or automations using Siri Shortcuts, or with our beautiful Widgets!
Whether you have kids, or someone in the family with a hearing disability, Signals for HomeKit can help quiet things down, and keep the conversations face to face, rather than shouted through the house.
Requirements
- Any HomeKit equipped light bulb, switch or outlet. Switches or outlets must be configured with a light attached. HomeKit must already be configured.
- Compatible with iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. iOS 15 required.
Usage Notes:
- If you have a bulb or switch with a slow ramp/fade rate, try shortening this rate in the manufacturers app, if the flash isn't noticeable - if this doesn't work, please let us know at https://www.homemadeautomation.com/contact-us, so we can help find a solution!

Needs fleshing out, can’t recommend sorry

Jake-the-Snakee on

Nice little app that fills a market gap (for functionality that should be baked in standard with Philips hue) but… …not being able to pick a single preset for a set of lights seems like a pretty big oversight that shows the app’s infancy (I have to manage each light individually, there are no global group settings). Additionally the ‘pulse’ setting is imperceptible as it is too fast. This should be tuned with respect to the product that it is being used with so it’s actually a functional feature. In the developers defence it seems like hue light bulbs have a slight delay hard coded into them for soft colour transitions, but this should probably be explained to the user, or a solution implemented. Flash & pulse should really be called pulse and strobe. Or just call it flash with an adjustable frequency slider. Or whatever. Considering that this is a paid app & there are still bugs (sometimes the flash duration doesn’t update), lack of what I would consider to be basic functionality such as light groups, a slightly clunky UI that looks about 2 years behind (I was tapping on the turtle for about 5 minutes to make it flash faster before realising that it’s indicative of the mode, this should cycle the setting or at minimum show a tool tip) and no real extensible features (flashing between 2 colours/a group of colours would be nice) I cannot recommend purchasing this app at this time.

Automation Support

Would love the ability to use a signal as part of an automation, ie: when I sensor detects something.

Nice app and excellent support

The app is nice and easy to use. The support is excellent had a question about a specific use and the respond was quick.

Our lights flash to remind our young children that it’s time for bed. Priceless.

Always strobes in a startling way

I really want to like this app, but I’ve bounced off it for a somewhat fussy reason. Imagine I have my lights at 25% white, and a strobe effect set for 80% blue. On most lights, colored light is much dimmer than white light. The way this app works, when the strobe kicks in, it will bring the lights up to 80% white first, then switch them to blue. This always creates a huge and startling flash in my house. I want to use the lights kind of like the visual equivalent of a chime, not a fire alarm. The app is a neat idea, but there’s no use case I can think of that is worth the panic/stress it induces.

Not for me.

Signal claims to work with automations, but it doesn’t. I have no use for this application. I tried to get refund but was denied twice. I basically gave the developer a free 5 bucks.

Unreliable and NO support

richtack5 on

United States

Bought this because I heard about the integration of HomeKit and Shortcuts, and looked forward to tying some of my Aqara devices to my automations. When this app works, it works well and as advertised. Would be worth every penny. The other 90% of the time, it does not work for me. There's no support or help, which I am frustrated by for a paid app.

Lifx lights not viewable in the signals app.

My lifx bulbs are not showing up in your app. Even though they are showing up in the apple HomeKit app. Hopefully you can fix this issue in the future. Thank you for your help.

Scam/waste of money

App does not work with my MacBook Pro and this was not clear before I purchased the app. App says ineligible for refund so this is now just a waste of money.

It has promise

Branleee124 on

I like the concept and it is made well. However, aside from the pulse command, I don’t believe anything done through this app would be awfully hard to make a shortcut for. Perhaps I missing something? Nevertheless the app has a good foundation to grow on.
