Communication at home takes many forms — we want more of the dinner-time conversations, but we could do with less of the loud knocking on doors, banging on ceilings, and shouting up stairs. If you have a HomeKit home, why not take advantage of it, and use your lights to help communicate?
Introducing Signals for HomeKit, the best way to communicate in the home, without all the shouting.
Signals works with any of your bulbs, switches or outlets with lights attached - have a kid who plays video games with headphones on? Just tap on their light to give it a few flashes.
Take it to a new level with the Signals Plus In-App Purchase, and put some meaning behind your flashes:
- Create a Time to Go Signal to flash the kids bedroom lights, and then set their night lights green
- A Dinner Time Signal can pulse lights in the bedrooms and the office, and then set them to blue
- Even setup a “GET DOWN HERE NOW” signal, to flash the kids’ lights red, and keep them that way!
Trigger your Signals in multiple ways — in the app, with your voice or automations using Siri Shortcuts, or with our beautiful Widgets!
Whether you have kids, or someone in the family with a hearing disability, Signals for HomeKit can help quiet things down, and keep the conversations face to face, rather than shouted through the house.
Requirements
- Any HomeKit equipped light bulb, switch or outlet. Switches or outlets must be configured with a light attached. HomeKit must already be configured.
- Compatible with iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. iOS 15 required.
Usage Notes:
- If you have a bulb or switch with a slow ramp/fade rate, try shortening this rate in the manufacturers app, if the flash isn't noticeable - if this doesn't work, please let us know at https://www.homemadeautomation.com/contact-us, so we can help find a solution!

Triggering Shortcuts on your Mac with HomeKit

kheewei on

Malaysia

Great job! There are some other similar apps offering triggering of Shortcuts via dedicated devices (dedicated = only used to trigger shortcuts), but with the new Mac OS Monterey, this was brilliant, as the Shortcuts on Mac can be executed behind the scenes (at least that is what it seems like to me). So, with the Signals Mac app, you can now easily trigger Shortcuts for HomeKit (e.g. specific Hey Siri scenes that are only available in the manufacturer's native app) and for your own Mac usage (productivity at the click of a button). And even better, it doesn't actually have to be a physical button/remote. Have tried using HomeBridge Virtual Buttons, and it still works. So imagine the possibilities. if you can get it into shortcut, you can get it to work in endless possible ways (if you have HomeBridge). You can use anything to trigger a http GET, which "presses" the virtual button, which makes your Mac run the Shortcuts! Time to load up on some serious Shortcuts.

Always strobes in a startling way

I really want to like this app, but I’ve bounced off it for a somewhat fussy reason. Imagine I have my lights at 25% white, and a strobe effect set for 80% blue. On most lights, colored light is much dimmer than white light. The way this app works, when the strobe kicks in, it will bring the lights up to 80% white first, then switch them to blue. This always creates a huge and startling flash in my house. I want to use the lights kind of like the visual equivalent of a chime, not a fire alarm. The app is a neat idea, but there’s no use case I can think of that is worth the panic/stress it induces.

Not for me.

Signal claims to work with automations, but it doesn’t. I have no use for this application. I tried to get refund but was denied twice. I basically gave the developer a free 5 bucks.

Unreliable and NO support

richtack5 on

Bought this because I heard about the integration of HomeKit and Shortcuts, and looked forward to tying some of my Aqara devices to my automations. When this app works, it works well and as advertised. Would be worth every penny. The other 90% of the time, it does not work for me. There's no support or help, which I am frustrated by for a paid app.

Lifx lights not viewable in the signals app.

My lifx bulbs are not showing up in your app. Even though they are showing up in the apple HomeKit app. Hopefully you can fix this issue in the future. Thank you for your help.

Scam/waste of money

App does not work with my MacBook Pro and this was not clear before I purchased the app. App says ineligible for refund so this is now just a waste of money.

It has promise

I like the concept and it is made well. However, aside from the pulse command, I don’t believe anything done through this app would be awfully hard to make a shortcut for. Perhaps I missing something? Nevertheless the app has a good foundation to grow on.

Not working. Junk

Not working

Where is the documentation or at least some help?

pugfan on

I've tried for several hours to figure out how to make this app useful. So far I haven't been able to create a single simple automation or anything that works and does something.

Simply doesn’t work.

I know I will no longer bother looking at apps recommended by Shane. He’s a sell out and has now, by recommending this garbage, shown he sells his recommendations to anyone willing to pay. Very sad.
