IMO dangerously inaccurate after the paid version came out. Since then, website says ingredients that I know I am allergic to are safe. Dashboard now has a pay wall so there is no option to verify on site. Luckily I have kept my allergist’s lists on hand. App rarely worked, anyway, but the website used to be great. No point in using affiliate links as information is unreliable now. Uninstalling.
I thought this app was great until they tried to make you pay for it. Once the upgrade happened, my allergies were re-classified as safe when reviewing a product when in fact it is not. I have reached out five times via customer service contact online with limited responses and the team saying they are not getting my emails. I have asked for a number to call or a different email but they will not communicate with me. I am beyond upset as I purchased items based on their app that ended up NOT being safe and I just want some answers as to what happened on their end. I’m glad I never purchased a subscription.
This could be a fabulous tool but much of the information is out of date. They need to modernize their way of collecting and maintaining data so that we can make informed choices. It was a poor decision to start charging for premium account when data is so out of date. I constantly find outdated ingredient listings and there is no way to ‘report a problem’ in app. Emailing the support team (of 1 person) is highly inefficient and likely perpetuates the data quality issue.
I’m not one to review apps but I had to come and leave a review and say that this app has helped me find truly 100% hypoallergenic products. It’s no way I’d be on the mend without this app. I’m truly thankful!
As someone who has extreme skin allergies, I found this app in 2017. I depended 100% It would tell me not safe, list ingredients them tell me which ingredient I was allergic to. NOW I have to pay to get that information??? I scanned a sunscreen and it was “under review”. But it was listed when I searched by name and it was safe. I questioned but NEVER got a response I was so delighted when I found the app, now I don’t trust it. I will not recommend it Serious ALL the nicknames are taken?????
The idea is great here but the execution is bad. I have been trying to get a hold of customer service for over a month as I paid for the subscription however it isn’t working.
Great product and use the app all the time
Not what it’s cracked up to be, and less useful with every release. Most products labeled “safe” for me are unavailable or discontinued, with broken links. SO much duplicate and outdated information. More often than not when I scan a barcode at the store, it’s not in the database and I’m asked to add the product. Each update revokes features that I use: first which ingredients were unsafe. Now I can’t make a custom filter, I can only use the (extremely conservative) code provided by my doctor? No. That’s just nonsense. Why can’t I make a customized filter anymore? It’s unrealistic: my doctor insists I avoid a huge list of ingredients, then refers me to a commercial app as my only resource, then this app restricts and gatekeeps all of this (poorly-organized, *user-maintained*) data, making it increasingly difficult for me to literally heal. So, why would I shell out for the “premium” version, where is the value? I already can’t find what I need, and SkinSafe shows no signs of improvement. Frustrating and discouraging.
Honestly, I have no complaints other than the price. I hate that the subscription is so expensive, but I understand the need for sustainability, especially to continually improve the app development. Skin allergies are tough to navigate but this app makes it much easier. Any way you guys can come off this price? My son is 3 and has severe allergies, so I’ll obviously be using this app long term, and then when he’s of age he will then use it.
