Does what it’s supposed to do
I’ve been using this App for more than 2 years every day continuously and learned how to read and write 3000 汉字 that way. So in a sense it fulfills it’s purpose. That being said I still feel far away from fluency, as my grammar, speaking and listening skills have not been developed as properly as my writing. Here are some things I’d like to see improved: -Rework the programming of the App and make it run more smoothly. It seems to involve a great deal of brute-force algorithms and on my iPhone 8 it doesn’t run smoothly and requires a lot of loading time. Just starting the App takes over a minute. To load a deck another 30 s. Also the App crashes rather frequently. It adds up and makes the review habit a rather unpleasant experience. -Give the app more features like a „review mistakes“ option that would enable to repeat the mistakes of the day infinitely. Often correcting the mistake just once doesn’t do the job and I keep making the same mistakes over and over again. -A „distinguish radicals“ feature would be great. Sometimes I accidentally associate a character with the wrong radical and thus mix it up with a completely different character. Just introducing a new deck with „false friends“ doesn’t do the job, as I already learned all those characters. I would really need a separate kind of drill just focusing on distinguishing radicals for characters which I mistake often. That were just some suggestions. I hope it’s helpful. This app has caused me a lot of pain but I’ve enjoyed the journey, because I like learning characters, despite the hardship that is sometimes associated with it. I will probably keep using this app for another year at least, even though I should really shift to a more functional more nuanced learning method or take some proper classes, as well, instead of just brainlessly hammering characters into my brain for an hour every day without end.
