Sadly so far this is promising but way to buggy. Takes forever to compile the takes. Freezes. And ultimately unreliable especially when needed for time sensitive work related projects.
Seems like there are very similar reviews dating back five years so not feeling overly hopeful for a fix :(
It worked so well till it didn’t.
I loved this app until after 5 times it suddenly stopped working. The buttons just don’t respond. I’ve just had my phone serviced (iPhone 11 pro max) so I’m safely ruling that out. I’ve tried running other apps and they’re all fine.
Pleeeeeaase I just want it to work 😩
Needs to fix the bugs
My friend recommended this app to me in the hopes it would make selftape life easier. While it is ‘free’ for basic and great to get a sense of it, you won’t actually be able to use it to submit professionally unless you pay the $21 upgrade as the basic has a watermark for the app in the corner of your video and only allows for one scene.
I would have no problem with the relatively high cost for an app if it worked and saved me time to edit everything on my phone. unfortunately in the end it took just as long as it would have had I uploaded my videos to my computer and edited there. After paying I’m disappointed.
Issues I encountered:
- it wouldn’t save my trims. I would edit my video in the app, hit save and the trims wouldn’t be saved when I compiled my video. I ended up having to edit my videos and then add them to the app.
- videos kept playing after I closed them.
- the app would glitch and close
- won’t let you make 2 tapes with the same production title, this was very frustrating as I was auditioning for 2 different parts in the same project. Even with different character names it wouldn’t allow it.
- I couldn’t access my favourites album only my videos album (as I shot all the takes before getting the app and had marked them that way to know which ones I wanted more easily, this was frustrating.)
- once the video was compiled I found it lagged ever so slightly
The title page (if it allows you to put the proper name of the project) looks very professional and if they work out the bugs the app has the potential of being an incredibly useful tool especially on the go. Unfortunately for the high cost for the upgrade right now I’m very disappointed. We’re actors and artists, a lot of us are financially struggling and paying fees and dues left right and centre before we even get to work, if you’re going to charge that much, it better work and make our lives easier.
Will stick to other apps
Off the bat, cannot fix the size of the slate, the audition is taken like a landscape portrait. After numerous tries and selections I all but had a nervous breakdown because I wasn’t able to share the videos and send them to myself.
Though the overall approach enticed me, the weak functionality and slim pickings of options has me at a standstill that I will not be using this app again in the near future until it’s approved again.
The picture and definition however was quite smart and it’s overall performance satisfactory.
Cool idea, but needs improvements
The idea is nice, but the app keeps crashing on combining videos. Interface is not intuitive and app keeps crashing on combining. Doesn't worth money
This would be so good!
This looked so promising. Great idea! The trim does not work very well. Only let's you trim a little ways into the clip. Compile video crashes every time so program is unusable.
Fix the bugs and this would be great!
Crashes All the Time
This used to be my go-to app for all my auditions during the pandemic. Ever since it moved to a subscription model, the app has been extremely slow, and it crashes all the time and usually after my best takes. Oh, and when it crashes, it fails to save the take. It’s especially frustrating when I’m facing a deadline!
Greedy developers
Been using Slatable for a while, and upon completing a self-tape audition this evening, I discovered upon opening the app that the developers arbitrarily removed functionality in order to strong arm users into pay for a subscription. Really tacky and tasteless.
Weird loud random white static noise ruining my takes
Loud static white noise ruining my takes in Random places while taping scenes
Used to be good
This used to be an amazing app. I used it allll the time. However, this recent update makes it impossible to use.
The audio glitches in and out making whatever take I just did unusable.
What happened? RIP Slatable.
