My neck hurts. Why no landscape mode?

bob.os on

Longtime Slate Plus member here. You’ve got to be kidding? On the iPad this app can’t rotate to landscape mode? I use my iPad Pro ~90% on the Magic Keyboard and in landscape. Hopefully this is all a big mistake. I’m going to go put a hot compress on my neck.

Absolutely the worst. At least it was expensive.

Nothing works in this app. Podcasts won’t link to players. My paid slate plus subscription isn’t honored. I sent a help request 6 days ago with no response. All I wanted was Amicus, and now I’m dealing with this massive annoyance. I reported this app to Apple as fraudulent. If you’ve paid for and not received slate plus, you should too. Do yourself a favor, and stay well away from this dumpster fire.

“Recent” crashes

No “Recent” on

United States

I love the last format update of the Slate app, and as a Slate+ subscriber I tend to keep up with articles, so Recent is a great option to find what I haven’t already read. However, with th last update, going to Recent crashes the app for me as it’s loading the headlines. Otherwise I would be very pleased, this crash is very disappointing.

Unusable. Video ads run constantly in middle of articles!

AstroPaul on

Slate is a great magazine, with good political and social analysis. However, the app is unusable. In the middle of every article are adverts that are in motion. They are visually distracting. They are Google ads and have a minuscule close “x” that doesn’t work. But even if they did, that’s not a solution. One does not want to have close *every* manually. Plus, the close buttons are so tiny, one risks tapping in the advert and passing over private data through their intrusive tracking. No thanks, Slate! You’ve blown it with this approach.

Paid for Slate+ for this useless app

I fell prey to the incessant ads on Slate podcasts and sprung fora subscription. I have yet to find how to listen to pods ad-free and keep hitting a pay way when I try to read articles. I'm glad it was a trial because I just canceled. Good luck getting support.

I just upgraded, but found it will not display in landscape mode on my iPad. Nothing in my settings will fix it.

Bad app, takes your money and then gives you nothing

You don’t get the sub you paid for. If you try to contact support you get ignored. You may be a loyal customer. they don’t care.

New mobile app - not great

Cookies##9090 on

Slate is one of my favorite sites and I have been a subscriber for years. Sadly I am considering canceling my subscription as the newest version of the mobile app is horrible. Bad visuals, hard to navigate, set default not to my liking.
