Still Buggy After All These Years

‘Access these photos offline’ is a shambles. It’s offline until you are online again, the cache seems to auto-empty at will and you are back to square one again downloading hundreds of MB of photos again. It’s awful.

After several years, I cancelled, DON’T WASTE YOUR MONEY

I’ve had a SmugMug account for years now, and I’ve never been happy with it, so today I cancelled my Basic and Source subscriptions after they increased the price of Basic by 25% with absolutely not warning. The app is horrendous, it feels like it was written by an intern a decade ago and never touched again. I doesn’t remember preferences at all, every time I open it I need to change the sort ordering to most recent to see if it’s managed to upload any now photos… Which brings me to the most serious failing of the app. Auto-upload simply does not work, at all. I have about 55k photos that I had set to upload, including RAWs. I have my library fully synced to my iPad, so everything is available. At first it worked well, went through the first 15k photos (which had already been uploaded by my iPhone), got down to 39k… then the number left STARTED GOING UP! Eventually it stopped at 45k and hasn’t changed in months, despite the app telling me each week “you’ve uploaded 37 new photos this week!” - which was completely nonsense. This app has been a constant source of stress and frustration in my life, because knowing that my photos aren’t being backed up at least brings more certainty than not knowing if I have a backup or not. DO NO WASTE YOUR MONEY, YOU WILL BE REWARDED WITH A SLOWLY GROWING WAVE OF ANXIETY AND REGRET AS YOU REALISE YOU’VE PAID FOR NOTHING BUT A WASTE OF YOUR TIME.
