SmugMug Reviews

Too Expensive For Canadians

Steve Dormer on

Canada

Brutally expensive with zero discounts and no Canadian printing, so, for prints it all must be shipped from the US of A.

Glitchy

Ruckus5678 on

Canada

App crashes often and has issues moving photos to other albums and uploading photos. Desktop version doesn’t have these issues

The best!

I have been with Smugmug for 20 years now, and never had a single problem. The system is simple and efficient, their encryption is great.

Force you to download their app

Frédéric Harper on

Force you to download their app to download a zip of photos you already paid for and can get one by one on the website.

Everything works, design could be better

It’s a nice app to have on your phone if you want access to your photos, to look at or show to people when you’re out somewhere, or even to make minor edits if you want to. That said, I feel like the design of this app doesn’t quite match how I want to use SmugMug. First of all, SmugMug’s strength is in how it lets you build galleries - curated collections. It’s not supposed to be a social network, with a “feed” of photos. If that’s what I wanted, I’d use Instagram. It’s also not a photo backup of all the random photos I take with my phone. I don’t want screenshots or pics of receipts on my SmugMug account. If that’s what I wanted, I’d use Google Photos. So why does this app constantly pester me to turn on “auto backup”, with no way to opt out of that alert? Why is the homepage of the app a “feed” of recently updated things, instead of my gallery page? Please SmugMug - lean in to what you’re good at and what we love you for and ditch the rest :).

Hates its users

App constantly asks me allow it to automatically upload all of my phone-photos to it. Options to dismiss the interruption dialogue box are only “yes” and “maybe later”. Needs an ABSOLUTELY NOT NO NEVER HOW MANY TIMES DO I HAVE TO TELL YOU NO I DO NOT WANT TO DO THAT STOP ASKING ME OVER AND OVER AGAIN WHEN ALL I WANT TO DO IS GET TO MY PHOTOS button as well.

Great App

Everything works fine.

Images are not displaying correctly.

djm!2021 on

The app adds a gradient darkening filter to bottom 20% of all images. Quite annoying. Unless I missing something the app has just a small range of functionality compared to the desktop app, meaning, it might be better just to log into SmugMug via a browser and work from there. Put the two shortcomings together and I am not sure what the value proposition is.

Changes..

I’m not down with opening the app in all the photos mixed up. I create galleries for a reason. I like to file my photos accordingly.. I really prefer how it was before.. Thank you.
