I downloaded this app as the only way of getting a charge when at Venue Cwmru in Llandudno. I normally make it a rule to only ever use chargers that accept contactless payment, and despise charger companies who insist on foisting their pointless apps, of which this is just another example, on the user. However, at Venue Cwmru in Llandudno there is no choice. Well, they they won't be getting my custom again (and I'm unlikely to go back to Llandudno either!)
The Tap app is very user friendly, and reliable. All our leaseholders are very please with it.
Charged here today. Downloaded the App, easy to use, easy to pay & reasonable price. Would recommend Tony&Janet
Where we live, we never have a Wi-Fi signal that strong enough to keep the charges connected. Hence our charges are never working.
It’s wasting time
Awesome app and interface. Definitely the best user experience from the driver’s perspective when trying to find the best price nearby. I hope more and more places start incorporating Tap into their charges because it really is much better than all the other services out there.
This app has such a smooth sign up process and then so easy to pay and actually use chargers. The features like availability and expected usage levels are awesome. Super useful and modern! Definitely recommend having it ready when charging away from home.
I write this review as a driver wanting to charge and not an EV charge point operator wanting to monetise their charger. Registering to use the app is not clear - there is no option to register as a new user. Confusingly you just log in. I chose a password with the @ symbol and could not proceed with registering. It seems @ is not allowed but there was no error message or password guidance. The app is not usable on an iPad as the screens do not scale properly. The pricing is utterly confusing with three separate elements plus a push to get you to subscribe for cheaper rates. The subscription model offers discounts but it turns out the discount is only applied to the transaction fee and not the whole cost of charging. As there is no way of knowing in advance what the transaction fee is you cannot work out if a subscription will work for you. If you wish to subscribe the app promises to detect and link automatically to your ApplePay account. It doesn’t and you need to enter your credit card details separately. On a more positive note it looks like you can message a user who may be hogging a charger (but only if they have entered their registration number). And it looks like you can get a notification when an occupied charger becomes free. Both of these are very useful (though not yet tested) Overall from a user perspective this app is awful and a far cry from the need to make charging an EV as simple as filling up with petrol. I have to ask if this app was properly tested by real users.
Arriving just in time for a meeting with only just enough electrons left I don’t need the faff of setting up an account on a complicated App. Buying electrons must be as simple as buying petrol. I accept for workplace installations with regular users it probably works but as a one off visitor it left me annoyed. Fortunately someone in the office helped me though I didn’t get enough power to get home. By the way ‘tap’ to me is a verb so I spent several minutes hitting the sticker with banks cards and my phone.
