Tsurukame FAQ
Is Tsurukame free?
Yes, Tsurukame is completely free and it doesn't have any in-app purchases or subscriptions.
Is Tsurukame legit?
Not enough reviews to make a reliable assessment. The app needs more user feedback.
Overall it's a very good app. There are some issues with playing sounds. I have downloaded sounds to make them play offline but the app still tells me to download. I wish still wish I could practice on apple watch! Right now you can only see some stats and it requires sync with the iPhone app. :(
Outstanding
Works so well that you'd be excused if you assumed it was an official app. Syncs perfectly with the web version and is ideal for getting some lessons & reviews in on the go. Never again will I have to let the reviews stack up into the hundreds just because I'm out of the house for a few days in a row.
Bug?
I absolutely love this app and all its features, especially being able to use it offline.
However, after the recent update with kana-only vocab, my phone seems to get stuck on これ and can’t further. I think I’ve tried everything, like restarted my phone etc, but I thought maybe it’s a bug? Wanted to let you know :)
Best way to do WaniKani!
Literally the only way I do WK now - can't believe there isn't an official app! But then again, I guess it isn't needed when Tsurukame already exists 👏
From zero to hero!
Thank you so much for the app, it is so easy to use and it is an amazing tool for learning Kanji! I can see improvements every day and notifications help me remember to study.
Best WaniKani companion app I’ve tried
Just the fact that you can change font size is reason enough to pick this app over WAniki (which uses a non-customizable, tiny font size during reviews), but there are also a few other nice functions, like a diagram showing upcoming reviews. (I would very much like an option to use a 24-hour clock in that diagram, though.)
Furthermore, this app seems to actually be able to keep track of reviews over time, sending you notifications even if you haven’t used the app for a while, whereas WAniki stops updating in the background after a few hours so you have to open the app every now and then to reenable notifications.
Why the negative reviews?
Wow I’m surprised to see that this app doesn’t have that much positive feedback? I think it works great 99% of the time (I think the few time I’ve had trouble syncing my reviews was because of bad internet connection so 🤷♀️) and there’s not really anything I feel is worth complaining about. This app definitely makes my WaniKani studies easier - especially when I’m on the move and don’t have internet access.
Some syncing problems
The app is smooth and looks good, and worked great at first. But after using it a few days, the reviews and lessons don’t match up with the homepage anymore. (App says 10 reviews, homepage 25.) Even when i pull down to refresh it does not update.
If you Fix this I’ll use this app alot.
Syncing
Currently the app is not syncing between devices. Before this worked really well but not anymore :(
