I still stand by what I said in my first review, that this is by far the best music app I’ve used. I love the random album feature, and it just feels like the app gets consistently more reliable with each update.
If I could recommend three things for future updates though:
(1): an easy way to just play one single, randomly-chosen album; like a button that just says “play one album”. Or more than one of you choose. I just know that at work I usually only have time for one album and I get indecisive, haha.
(2): “weighted” random album selection: as cool as it is to have albums reshuffled when you pull down, I think it would be extra neat to have this random selection weighted more towards albums that have limited or no play counts, giving you an easy way to explore more of your library.
(3): a unified settings tab instead of separate settings depending on what page you’re on. If I recall, the dev commented on my last review saying it was going to happen at some point, and I believe them. :)
I don’t want these recommendations to take away from how good this app is though; even if none of these things were implemented, I would still give it five stars. Great job! Thank you!
Simply great
Active and iterative developer. As surface level or deep as you are probably looking for in a music app. Always getting better
Well maintained
Brings me joy
Release Feed
Absolutely love the releases feed. Top notch feature. Thank you!
My favorite music app
The majority of my music listening is by album, and this is by far the best way to do that. I will often queue up multiple albums in a row and have music for hours in a row.
Buggy on iPad
I want to like this app but it does not work well on iPadOS. There is a bug that occurs when resizing the window in Stage Manager that causes the album artwork to not resize accurately so only a small corner is displayed in the artwork view.
Also, please implement some kind of full-screen art view for albums on iPad; it seems silly to have an album focused music player when I can’t display the artwork in a way that takes advantage of the larger screen.
This app seems geared towards iOS, which is fine, but the iPad app needs some work.
An app that allows an album lover to enjoy digital music.
I have no idea how it took me so long to find this app but this does what I always wish the Music app on an iPhone would do, allowing albums to be shuffled and music to be enjoyed the way many musicians intended. I’m finding new things out about this app and the way it helps you dive into your collection while not lumping you in with a bad algorithm that’s guided by everyone else’s music tastes. No Apple Music, because I’m a fan of R.E.M. I don’t want to listen to Lenny Kravitz. If anything I’ve written above hits home with you buy this app NOW!
paywall
almost all features are locked behind a paywall cool concept though
Excellent and worth the subscription
I’ve been using this for years. Just switched over to lifetime unlock. It’s superior in many ways to the stock Apple Music app and is a great discovery tool, in addition to many other interesting features. I use it daily. A wish: to have this on Mac. A suggestion: the interface in the iPad app is a bit confusing when it comes to settings. There are three different setting icons to choose from, and the one for general settings is hard to find if you don’t know where to look. I’m not a designer so I have no solutions, I’m just relaying that I sometimes get confused about what settings are where and for what. Hope: keep the CarPlay integration going. I hope I’m not the only one using Albums in my car.
Great Widget for Home Screen
Love the Home Screen widget! It lives at the top now and lets me easily listen to albums from my library, or skip to the next album. Perfect.
One wish: I wish there were a Watch app too! Would love to be able to load some albums (even just randomly selected) to my watch and be able to play from there directly to AirPods. Would add an Albums complication in a heartbeat if there were one. Fingers crossed!
