Ancestry: Family History & DNA

What used to be included with a dna analysis is now moved to a subscription even though what I bought included all of those features. They’re literally taking back things I already paid for. Terrible business model.

I have been subscribing to Ancestry for many years. It is such a fun hobby. I have found so many interesting lineage facts for myself and others, and I love it. It adds a great dimension to my own sense of who I am and it’s really fun to tell my, close family members how fancy they are!! The best part of this app. Is it connection to other research apps. I found some other good apps online, but I always go back to Ancestry because it’s stable, I trust it, and I can keep all my notes right there in the app. Thank you for a great job!!!

Costs are exorbitant compared to similar apps, but seems to give more information. It doesn’t always work well on iPad app!

Every time I add a new person to my family tree the app gives me a “Network Error” message and I have to close the app. Upon reopening the app it puts me back where I was prior with the relative I was trying to add, now in my tree. I move on to adding the next relative and I have to go through that whole process over, every time, without fail.

If I could give 0 i surely would. I would never recomend ancestry to anyone. I am so broke and barely making enough to cover my bills and put food on the table for my children. Ancestry took $99.95 from my Paypal for a subscription on their app and refuse to refund. The second rep that I spoke with told me to contact apple for a refund because I have an iphone. The charge is not in my transaction history. They make it super difficult to cancel free trials. Everything is very misleading. I could cry, i’ve been hung up on this for 24 hours.

The price is ridiculous. Whether it’s the $25 a month (which gets you nothing) or the $40 a month (do not upgrade to this if you have already paid $25 for the month as you will end up paying $65 for one month). The $40 a month promises access to things that it doesn’t provide. It’s not accurate and it even says it’s not. It’s just what others have put into the system and they just basically compile it together, regurgitating back to you for a fee. I also found it impossible to edit hints that I had accepted by accident, thinking they were correct when they were not. It’s sad because I actually love using this app for my family tree, and I still will, but I will NEVER pay them again.

A great way to find & keep family history. I love using it but the older version was more user friendly for me. There are a few things about it now that are dead ends to me or I have to go around the world to find for what/whom I'm looking.

It’s gotten to the point that it’s easier to just use the on line version. Rarely do I use the app without problems. Sometimes my whole tree is blank. Hint leaves continually show up even when there is really not a hint for the person. Click on a document to open and a different source opens instead. And I don’t know what happened to just seeing the list of hints that used to show up on my home page. Now I get all of this AI generated stuff that is not useful or helpful. When the app is working it is great, but that seems to be rare. Update 8/13/24: The app remains problematic. Trees disappear or are incomplete. Click on a document and another document comes up instead. People disappear from the database. Using the website is much more reliable. However, as others have pointed out, the website is becoming cost prohibitive. I have had a paid subscription for over a dozen years, and the costs have skyrocketed. On top of that, Ancestry now charges separately for “Pro” tools that are simply software enhancements which should be part of the basic subscription. Add to that the frustration of all the newspaper records which require another additional costly subscription. Instead we now get all of this AI generated “story” information which is not useful or desired. Give subscribers the pro tools as part of our basic subscription and get rid of the stories.

Learning alot

I live this amazing app I have my family tree with 3,000+ people but lately there’s been some bugs and it’s so annoying because the app will glitch. Please fix this. I already sent a feedback.
