The ‘free trial’ is a trap. Make sure you cancel the payment with your bank and don’t assume that because you’ve cancelled it on the app they will honour that cancellation. I’m now back with Audiable!

Warning you are unable to cancel your subscription from the app which is always a red flag to me. Making it awkward to cancel is a ploy allot of services like this use to lock in users for the month after your trial ends. While using app you are unable to lock the phone without the book being paused which is frustrating, especially if using at night in bed etc. Over priced.

I spent 20 minutes trying to find a book in English and then when i finally found one it said I had to upgrade my account but do you think they told you how to do that.

This is bad and they should be ashamed as they charge 90 pounds for a year whereas I just wanted to read a book

I have a couple of audio book apps, and was looking specifically for a book by Gary Gestle - The Rise And Fall Of The Neoliberal Order. Audiobooks have a sample on their website. I registered and agreed to pay their £7.99 monthly subscription. I then downloaded the app only to find “this title isn’t available in your region”! Oh! The irony of copyrights in the fading embers of neoliberalism. I spoke with their “chat” - who knows whether it’s a human or a bot, but claimed to be human. Our chat was as follows: 1. Her: Don’t use our website to find which books are available, use the app! Then you’d know the book wasn’t available. Sorry for inconvenience. 2. Me: I joined your company because the book is available on your webpage, and after payment downloaded the app, only to find the book was not available. 3. Me: Please cancel my membership. This company’s level of service is pathetic. Why not make it clear the book is ONLY available in some regions? Probably too much effort. Why be presumptuous that people will use the app before joining to find the book? Huh! Yeah! Stupid. The condescension was pitiful. Do yourself a favour - there are much better audio book services than this pathetic, presumptuous and pitiful company. Avoid.

Why is there no filter on the search function? For example if I want to search for Roald Dahl children’s stories it just brings back everything in an unknown order. I cannot even filter by language. Do better please

Free trial doesn’t include an option to immediately cancel as if you do you cannot use the free trial meaning you must wait until the last minute and then cancel in order to fully take advantage - pretty obvious and embarrassing money taking tactic knowing that there’ll be customers who’ll forget. Notes do not save: spent a pretty long time writing crucial notes on an audiobook which would be helpful for my work. To my immense irritation, in 2024 technology the notes did not save. Quick rewind / fast forward is at 30 seconds when the rest of the world is on 10 seconds for every single other service eg youtube, Netflix, iPlayer….. somehow the owners of this app think that its customers are happy wasting time of their life and money on this. I’m happy to spend my time exposing the truth instead.

I often use audio books to help me sleep and looking at bright white light at 3o’clock in the morning is not good. It’s such a basic feature please add it. I’ll be cancelling at the end of my free trial because of this otherwise I would have continued.

Very confusing system, there is a mixture of ‘free books’, purchases with credit, purchases with money and ‘VIP deals’, all accessed via different, sometimes hidden menus? I can’t figure out how many credits I have, or what I can spend them on. Would recommend BookBeat / Audible over this confusing, badly designed app.
