Greg: Plant Identifier & Care

In an effort to find the perfect plant management / identifier app, I trialed the three most reviewed apps, plus a further two very high rated, but minimally reviewed, apps. Greg is the clear winner. Ease of use, layout, premium subscription cost, correct plant identification - Greg outshines the others in all these areas and more.

So I downloaded this lovely app, and I got in and put in my phone number, which sent me a code. Well I was very excited, as I have just got this new Elkhorn fern, and I do not have a great track record with ferns, so when I found this fabulous app that was going to solve all my plant problems. But when I put in said code, it would not load. I tried multiple times, I even tried the next day, and guess what, it still wouldn’t work. It just went round and round and round. And then I deleted it. Without even getting passed the code. So if I have done something incorrectly, please, go ahead. Find a solution. But as my dad always said “if it looks to good to be true, it probably is 🤷‍♂️!!!”. I’ll just do my gardening the old fashioned way, by myself! Side eye 😒

I have dozens of species and varieties of aroids. The app is not able to correctly identify the genus correctly for many plants. If you aren’t a plant person it may be useful, but for me its a little disappointing and not worth subscribing to.

Great for tracking watering, understanding about size and nearness to light issues re watering and identifying odd plants that come by.

This app was absolutely amazing for almost 2 years as I’ve been using it, reminders for when to water, helps me keep track of how to take care of all my plants. Now I apparently have to pay a yearly subscription for the features I’ve been using for free for years? Not sure why they decided this, I’d have been happy to pay for the app itself, but a subscription fee is just irritating, and has put me off using the app. Very disappointing.

I cannot recommend this app enough, not only is it amazing at reminding you on what plant to water, how much to water and where they should be placed. But the community is unbelievable, not only are they super friendly (I have not seen one rude comment on Greg) but they’re also super helpful and informative. It’s a great place just to hang out and chat with other like minded plant lovers. Even if you’re a complete beginner and only have one plant, Greg will welcome you and will guide you through the confusing world of plant care. Don’t waste your time with all the other plant apps (I have tried them all and NONE compare) You can even get “super” Greg (paid subscription) for free for 3 months just by getting a friend to download it (remember downloading is free) so you really have nothing to lose but everything to gain. Don’t watch your plants die one by one, just download Greg and have a beautiful haven instead.

GREAT APP! - Genuinely surprised it’s not one of the top plant apps! Only app I’ve seen which lets you input plant info to calculate specific care (pot size, soil, distance from window, geography ect) Months later, 16 plants going strong using this in a boys house too (which impresses our guests) It’s super easy to use, cute and personable. Name your plants and take photos of them. Great social feed too! Free version’s fantastic! It limits you by maxing out at 5 plants but that’s because it’s well… free! Constructive feedback: - Additional advanced care functionality like mist or fertilise would be great - Other apps offer “create room” function which is a fun way to organise plants. Suggest this for Greg - My Council Tree overwatered using the care instructions and lost all its leaves. Suggest dialling back your recommendations for that particular plant (no others have problems)

Seemed great until I added a plant and found out the app is only for indoor plants. I have a whole garden of expensive plants I want to care for and suddenly the app isn’t relevant for me. Wish they mentioned something in the description..

My favourite app to grow plants!

I like it for the general points of it, (being notified when plants need watering) but that’s all. There’s no notes no place for pictures to be kept and the ‘details’ are not what you would want to know about a plant?? not many plants in the system, I had to ‘add’ heaps. I wouldn’t be complaining as much if the price wasn’t raised monthly for some reason??? I have ALOT of improvements and suggestions for this app coming from someone who wants an app that can actually accomodate plant growers needs. And not just being notified about watering.
