Used Habitica for 7 years, can no longer recommend it
As the title says, I have been using Habitica for 7 years - 7.5 years to be correct.
While it’s a fairly good task manager, the lack of new features and bug fixes has made me use it less and less. What kept me there was the community, but that community is now slowly disintegrating, as all the volunteer mods have been removed. Staff has taken over moderation, and it would be a pity to say that they are even doing the bare minimum - because they certainly are not.
So if you are looking for a supportive community, I would look elsewhere.
Additionally, long term users and volunteer contributors are now being told off for flagging triggering content. This never happened with the volunteer mod team. It has not been possible to get clear guidelines from staff for 1.5 months.
If you are just looking for a basic, free task manager, sure. But be aware that there have been app-breaking bugs for a long time, that seems like is no priority to fix. Just as an example, the app frequently crashes if you click any of your notifications leading to a party or guild. It is super annoying.
A great To-do list with some fun on top
Habitica is essentially a To-do list with a very non-intrusive RPG game slapped on top of it. The division of lists into three separate categories (Habits, Dailies and To-Dos) makes a lot of sense. It's intuitive to use and fun to look at. You can make little encouraging notes under your tasks and set difficulties (this is mostly for the previously mentioned RPG game part of it).
It has a bit of jank here and there, I've experienced some slow load, especially on the daily reset, but it's obviously being worked on AND it's a fully featured To-do app, no monthly premiums for "Habitica Gold Features".
I would highly recommend Habitica, even if you aren't a huge video game liker. The UI makes sense, it's fun to look at and apparently there's a large and supportive community in the chat section of the game.
Sjov gamification-todo liste
Jeg bliver mere motiveret af denne app, end af andre todo liste apps.
Several levels of awesome
This app is the most fun goals and to-do management I have seen. It tracks good and bad habits, repeatable goals and to-do lists. Besides the activities you supply, you can join friends in groups for accountability. The better you manage to complete your real life daily goals, the better the group makes out on shared bossfights. The community - through optional multiple guilds - supply inspiration too with challenges for different interests that you may choose to join. Challenges adds a set of habits, dailies and to- dos. I am most happy about having joined the Habitica numbers, looking forward to see future developement on the app.
👌🏻
The Habitica app is an astonishingly helpful tool to keep track of your life and accompanies the website well!
Add an excellent support and attentive and kind developers, and you've got pretty much everything you need.
PLEASE MAKE IWATCH APP
I loveeeee this app. It has really been helpful for my adhd. It has lovely real time consequences for choices on habits and a reward system. I love that my wife was able to get the app and we were able to form a party so we can earn experience for maintaining the house in a fun way! But I NEED this to have iwatch widgets so I can easily update my habit tracker or my dailies. And more widgets for the phone so I can track my habits!
Excited but let down
This all seemed to be exactly what I needed to get myself motivated to care for my home and self. However, any task or habit I create, regardless of filters or ensuring I press “create”, disappears and cannot be found via search or any dashboard. Really disappointing.
I was confused at first
There is a learning curve but cool app
Good task management, nothing motivating
If you were already planning to disrupt your life to build new habits and manage productivity, this is essentially a planner pretending to be a game. Could be fun. But it’s not enough to be a breakthrough solution for those of us who really need something different that works.
Back when I tried this app 10 years ago it had a social aspect where you could do challenges with other app users and discuss on in-app forums. Now at a time when I am really down to build new habits and stick to something, there is nothing actually motivating about using this app. Maybe if you’re a Cookie Clicker type and seeing the number of levels go up is enough for you, this will work. But there’s no social aspect and no unlocking of cool items—everything cool is behind microtransactions. Sure, you can earn rewards and customize a reward for your real life like watching TV. But I’m assuming I’m like most people this app is targeted for, who has little issue watching TV without feeling like I’ve “earned” it.
Almost Great
I was having such a good experience with this app.. until about 5 days in when I realized the good stuff like hairstyles… are locked behind a paywall (gems). It’s one thing if you can earn items OR pay real money to unlock, but making most cool stuff ONLY pay to unlock defeats the entire point of this app. Pretty lame imo… I hope this changes in the future :/
