The first series, Coping with Stress, constitutes the core practice curriculum of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), developed at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center, USA. They can be used together with Full Catastrophe Living: Using the Wisdom of Your Body and Mind to Face Stress, Pain, and Illness (revised, 2013). These series include for example:

Sitting Meditation
The second series focuses on mindfulness in everyday life. These meditations go well together with Jon’s book, Wherever You Go, There You Are: Mindfulness Meditation in Everyday Life. These series include, for example:
Short, medium and long duration sitting meditation
Lying down meditation practice
The third series, Healing Yourself and the World, provides an opportunity to go deeper into the meditation practice. These meditations go with the book, Coming to Our Senses: Healing Ourselves and the World Through Mindfulness (2005). It offers guided meditations on:
- Body scan
- Breath work
- Meditations on choiceless awareness
- Meditations on loving-kindness

More about Jon
Jon Kabat-Zinn, PhD is internationally known for his work as a scientist, writer, and meditation teacher engaged in bringing mindfulness into the mainstream of medicine and society. He is Professor of Medicine emeritus at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, where he founded its world-renowned Stress Reduction Clinic in 1979, and the Center for Mindfulness in Medicine, Health Care, and Society (in 1995) Jon is the author of fourteen books published in over 45 languages, including:

I first came across Jon’s original app in about 2009-2010. It svaed my life as I was suffering from intractable headaches caused by intracranial hypertension. Finding this new app after years of not having my original app is such a relief.

A Key Part of My Life

I have been using this app for the past six years. It has become a key element of my wellness plan. There is enough variety of practices to allow one to “mix and match” as desired and also to explore different approaches to meditation. I would strongly recommend reading JKZ’s book “Wherever You Go There You Are “ in conjunction with using this app. Strongly recommended.

This app is as close as you can get to live Jon Kabat Zinn teachings. And for me, Jon has a way of being and saying these things that goes straight to my heart. Beyond and between the words develops the understanding of these universal teachings.

I’ve used lots of different apps to practice mindfulness like headspace and calm. This app is the best in my opinion. You learn mindfulness in a clearly explained, easy to understand way with his books and the app as a companion. He doesn’t overcomplicate it. I’ve read mindfulness for begginers and am now reading full catastrophe living and feel I am learning and growing a lot. This app is also very cheap which I appreciate as well. If your looking for a mindfulness app or reading his books, I highly recommend this app. He also doesn’t talk too much in his meditations. Some other apps, they talk too much and there is not enough space and silence to learn and practice on your own. This app has just the right amount of guidance and silence.

Thank you so much for the recent addition of Mindfulness for Pain Relief. It is nice to have specific meditations and lessons on pain, with a shorter body scan. I use this app several times a week and it’s very beneficial.

This app features Jon’s original guided meditations plus much more. I just attended one of Jon’s live-stream discussions (included in this app subscription) and was quite literally blown away. There’s lots of good content here and more coming from what I hear. Note that I updated my initial review after hearing back from the developer (below) and attending one of the live events. I was too hasty in my judgement.

I’ve tried many meditation apps, and I really love this app, especially as an accompaniment to Jon Kabat-Zinn’s books. The guided recordings are very easy to follow and feel like being guided to mindfulness by a wise, compassionate friend.
