Joplin

Incredible app for note taking and planning. Really needs a way of creating linked documents from within the current document (i.e., without having to first create the linked document then copy its link into the document you are linking from).

My requirements were for an app to capture thoughts and research for later reference (the Zettelkasten idea), and that it sync privately across my Macbook and iPad. I have other apps and processes for To-dos and journals. Syncing via webDAV on my server, Joplin is fast, easy, private, and sufficient. It appears well supported. I investigated a wide variety of alternatives. This app looked to fit best, and, after trying some others, is actually doing the job.

This is a great application. I moved from Obsidian and I am very positively surprised. - it is open source - can sync to Dropbox - supports encryption I can only recommend 👍👍👍

Configuring s3 as a sync target will crash the app. Avoid. Going back to Evernote.

It’s been a few years thought I would try Joplin again. The iOS app has major rendering issues. As soon as you edit a note or enter text in the app’s settings, the whole user interface disappears and you have to force close the app and reopen to do anything further. Entering my login details for Joplin Cloud required 3 force closes as the UI bugs out after entering the details. Want to edit a note, forget about it. Why does this critical bug for a note taking app still exist years later? Seriously ridiculous

Obviously the 5 Star ratings here are for the desktop solution which is very good and has a lot of features. But … the IOS App is really just a viewer with little functionality and no access to plugins. If this app is as stated a replacement for Evernote then needs to provide more for mobile users.

This app is absolutely amazing. If you’re looking for an app that does these things you won’t be disappointed - To-do alternative like todoist - Note taking alternative like Evernote - Notion - everything it does Joplin is open source and the best app for collaborating just about everything

The more I use Joplin, the more I like it. I especially like the Katex equations and mermaid diagrams. The fact it’s a true cross platform app is the main reason I use it.

This is a great high quality open source application that works across all operating systems. It’s a no-lock-in Evernote in markdown. It has a built in WebDAV sync (which is ideal for speed and privacy compared to say Dropbox) and keeps everything in a SQLite database. Although I generally prefer flat files, the advantage to Joplin is having everything all in one place (tags, sync, search). Oh and it implements KaTeX and parses HTML.
