Outline: Knowledge Organizer

I very much enjoy this app. I am using it for note taking as well as journaling for certifications / trainings I take. Very user friendly and intuitive.

Update: It's a very long time since I last used Outline; since then, my info management has been transferred to other apps. But as I was scanning through various app updates, I was pleased to see that Outline had recently been updated and technically strengthened, so thought I'd take another look. And guess what? The most annoying shortcoming has been resolved! The search function now highlights hit terms in notes automatically! This is very good news. I have no interest in using Outline as a means of accessing OneNote files, so don't much care about OneNote compatibility. It's beginning to look like its own, very solid alternative, however. I shall continue my reacquaintance with interest! =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= This is a very elegant app that works remarkably well. It’s a very pleasant alternative to the OneDrive-bound Microsoft app, and despite occasional stutters, behaves well if you give it a bit of breathing room. Personally, I hope very much that Gorillized will continue to develop the app, adding things that Microsoft themselves appear to have forgotten, like folding outlines within pages and suchlike. There’s room for a OneNote competitor, and after the ignominious demise of MobileNoter, Outline has turned into a very good-looking piece of software.

I would have given this 5 star when I started to use it, however it has been been left behind by the likes of Notability if you are wanting to use your apple pencil. I still feel it has a better lay-out and more book/file like feel than the others, I love this part. Using the apple pencil on the app is definetly not great. If you are happy to type then it is worth the moneyo and I would give it 5 stars.

This is very functional and useful. I have used it to write two books. However, there is some more functionality that needs to be added. In particular, the search function (one of the selling points) is incredibly weak. It needs to operate like the rest of them in providing a list of matches and linking you directly to the matches, rather than just giving you a page and making you search for the highlighted term. This is a major drawback when attempting to find information in your notes.

So I opened Outline, pointed it to my Onedrive and loaded up a bunch of notebooks and it trashed them. Duplicated sections, trashed pages, an utter mess. Years of notes, gone. You have no idea how angry I am about this worthless piece of garbage.

Would be great if it worked on my Macbook pro - since OS updates, crashes verytime on opening. Gorillized said they knew about the problem, but 6 months on still no fix! Could be good but at moment utter rubbish

Like many i came to this from OneNote……the interface is ok and there is a lot of potential. I found integration with apple pencil not as good as Onenote and cuting and pasting from multiple sources is not remotelty as good as OneNote. My biggest problem, though is the UTTER lack of customer support. This is, by App store standards, a very expensive app. As i new user i submitted several questions about operations and possibilities. I received not a single reply. This is, i am afraid, not remotely good enough.

Not for the first time, this app has lost images that I’d added to notes. However, the latest version has lost the images for a complete section. Having now restored from Time Machine I am migrating to an alternative solution.

I was a long-term OneNote user until I discovered Outline. It opens OneNote files like a boss, and doesnt require a OneDrive account. It is seriously fast opening up and syncing. No crashers to date (way better than OneNote in this respect) Key missing feature (that will make Outline a 5 star app) is font support.
