Pestle: Recipe Manager

I used this app to cook Christmas lunch for my family and it saved the day. Great app that can sort out any recipe!

I seldom write app reviews, but I'm moved to endorse Pestle because it is so well executed. Its ability to ingest recipes through URLs or scans is genuinely helpful, the shopping list is fantastic, and the design is attractive and practical. I've done a lot of cooking from my phone in the past, but it only became enjoyable after I downloaded Pestle. I've even started scanning recipes from cookbooks into the app, because often the good ones get lost in the books and they are more readily rediscovered in the app. Pestle is one of those rare apps that really justify their price.

This app has totally changed the way my partner and I organise our cooking. We sit down once a week and build our meal plan, use that to create a shopping list and go from there - I’ve never been so organised with food and it’s great! I am also obsessed with how easy it is to import a recipe from basically any website, and now even an instagram recipe can make the cut too. Seriously an incredible app 🫶

Updated Fantastic we now have a pantry and it’s brilliant. To be able to scan the items in is a game changer. Love it. I can highly recommend this app it’s brilliant. I have used Recipe Keeper for a while however there was no way for family members to see the meal planner without sending a link to add to their calendar. Now all members can see what I see. Pestle is very user friendly, so do yourself a favor and don’t hesitate to go Pro. The only thing that would make this app even better is if it included a pantry so you could list what items you had in your cupboard and fridge. Which is why I gave 4 ⭐️ not 5.

As a chef, I’ve scoured the AppStore for an app that ticks all boxes. Simple enough for the home cook, yet complex for the pros. Finding a recipe on the net and letting the app provide the important info is a game changer. I can take the info I know, plug it into pestle and adjust as I need. This app is the call to all my prayers, and if Will is reading this, I’d love to assist as sideline chef.

Having used this app now for over a year, it’s such a great way to store and collect recipes while new updates and development continue to be added!

Most aspects of the recipe import UI are intuitive. Only criticism is that the category/cuisine tagging function is a hot mess. Needs to have a specific menu for me to edit existing tag. Plus the tags don’t sync well between my devices at all.

I’m so glad I found this app as it makes a really easy reference for me when I want to store and revisit online recipes. Just scrolling my collection helps jog my memory on ideas for dinners. It’s much easier to use this app to read the recipes as opposed to the food blogs where they came from (with endless scrolling and text and pop up ads and videos). Great app!

Despite having an annual subscription ALL my stored recipes disappeared… that’s hundreds of recipes. Maybe there’s a way of getting them back?
