PocketSmith Sidekick

The website app looks great but the mobile app is miles behind. I think even having a mobile app is doing you more damage than good. It looks half baked and sends a poor message. I am a long term YNAB user and was looking for something else that looks a bit more modern and has better reporting capabilities. Whilst the underlying system of this product does tick those boxes, not providing a fully functioning app for users is borderline suicide. Who carries a laptop with them? People want to use their mobile device, not spin up a Web Browser.

Very good tool but it takes a lot of time to get used to it. Not the most user friendly. The Budget function is quite confusing and it could be further improved. Being a single entry finance system, there is a risk of making errors specially for bank accounts that relies on manual entries. However, overall it is not too bad but there is still lots of room for improvement.

Such a great app, it has really helped me turn my spending around. It links will all of my accounts including my savings accounts & crypto. It neatly records all of my transactions & shows my net worth figure instantly. I tried lots of other apps before but none have this level of functionality or ease of use. Absolutely recommend for anyone looking for track their spending, set savings goals & increase their net worth.

The app crashed immediately unless I hold and open via transactions - Home Screen doesn’t appear to work.

Please get this fixed as cannot even look at expenses by category over more than the few periods

The app is pretty basic and quite poor, to be honest, and if you want to use PocketSmith then 90% of your interaction needs to be done on a laptop. Amongst many other things, you can only enter manual cash transactions from the app, not enter any other transactions on the fly, and you can’t split them. I understand the rationale that most transactions should come from either bank interface or file upload, but that’s often too late and I only do that at the end of month reconciliation. I need the functionality to be able to track in-month spend against so that I can modify spending as necessary - and that means the ability to enter transactions such as credit card spend as it happens on the app is important and that is notably missing.

I love the Oct 19 update for iOS 13. Being able to show my favourite budget categories at the top of my dashboard screen is a big win. Once transaction entry is possible from the mobile app I’ll go to 5 stars!

Another reviews have said, this app doesn't replace the main PocketSmith web app, however provides enough functionality to get an overview of what's going on and categorise new transactions etc. There are regular updates with increasing functionality so looking forward to seeing what comes next!

This is a good app and has got some good improvements from the first version. Great addition to categorize your transactions and view your budget spending. There is still a lot of potential for further versions.

The online portion is excellent, but in an age of “mobile banking”, the app completely falls down. It has quite literally no functionality beyond showing account balances, letting you categorise spending, and a bit of basic budget data. There is no reason not to have more functionality. Or at the very least make the website usable on a phone, it’s downright brutal to use!!!
