Removal of remote start is aggravating, that was a great feature. Holidays are a nightmare for the App, it will cease to send updates and notifications during “heavy use times”. Other apps have found ways to support that, Recteq has not. Love the grill, very happy with its performance, but the app needs work.

Lost the ability to remote start. Lost the ability to have a recteq widget on my Home Screen. The latest update also broke notifications. I got zero alerts for my brisket and overcooked Christmas dinner. VERY disappointed. Bring back the old functionality. The app used to be fantastic.

I love my RT 590, the app is underwhelming. The notifications are late if they work at all. The app is slow and clunky. Remote monitoring was a selling point for me, now that has gone away.

This app is awful. Constant crashes. Forgets my grill. Won’t set the probe temperature. Had to create my account three times to get it to let me log in. I work in technology and this is one of the worst apps I’ve used in a long time

Servers must have gotten overwhelmed for Thanksgiving. No temp probe alerts. Not to mention the start feature being removed from the app.

Why did they removed the ability to start grill with the app? For me, that was the main reason for the app. Now I see no need to use the app. I don’t need another social media app. Please bring back that functionality. I love my RT-590 grill though.

My backyard beast is awesome turns out some amazing food but the app, is lack luster. The latest app update they removed the widget which was really the only part of the app that worked for me. The notifications lag by anywhere from 5 mins to 45 mins. I’ve actually had the grill completely shutdown before I got a notification that my grill was too temp. I’ve stopped using the app completely. Hopefully they can get it back to a working order.

What a lame choice

It ticks me off so bad they did away with the app control start up. I WAS able to start my grill On the way home from work and be ready to get started when I got home, those days are over. Working 12 hr shifts and living an hr from my job, every minute is valuable. Saying something is an industry standard is…well my mother asked me as kid “if everyone else jumped off a bridge would you do it to?” Well, RecTeq would and did. That said, if you have a cover or something on it and start it up remotely you could have serious problems and being as we live in a day where personal responsibility is a unicorn, I guess I get it, I’m just still mad about it lol. Rant over, the rest of the app work fine, stays connected, doesn’t crash, never have any real issues. I think the list of recipes keeps growing though I’m not 100% sure of that…. The main thing I used the app for was starting my grill. Short version is the app works fine, I occasionally look through the recipes but they took away the main feature I use so I probably want have the app on my phone much longer as unused apps get deleted. Update: It’s been a few months since the updates that took away the remote start, I don’t think I’ve used the app once since then and have used the grill half as much, probably less. I really wish someone would make a pellet grill that I could remote start, I’d have a Recteq for sale.

I have the RT-700 and have held off on making a review for a few years but I have to say today is so typical of the app and the companies choice of servers. No alerts of any kind, very normal for a holiday, no cook history/graph, not sure if this is a new feature to remove it. Remote start removed and lost feature.
