This is the best app to track your climbing and boulder sessions automatically. Redpoint gives you detailed overview and feedback on your ascents.
Use your Apple Watch or iPhone as a fitness tracker for bouldering and climbing. Contribute your climbing session to closing your daily rings! Workouts are stored in HealthKit and therefore visible in the Health app and Workouts app as well.
After each session you will see detailed information about your climbs: the overall height, your heart rate, duration, maximum ascent height, ascending speed, difficulty of routes, and most importantly: Redpoint will give you personalized training suggestions based on that data. How to go from V4 to V5? Or from 5.11b to 5.11c? Redpoint creates a training plan just for you to achieve your next climbing goals.
So, how does that work?
Thanks to highly advanced machine learning we are able to classify climbing movements right on Apple Watch. In addition to that we use the built-in barometer to measure the ascended altitude. You can track the difficulty of ascended routes right from the Apple Watch.

Easy to use, enjoying seeing progress
The phone app and the Apple Watch app are simple, easy to use and intuitive, and I’ve really liked that I can see over time that I am improving.
The only thing I’d change if I could is, making it a little easier to change grade systems at workout set up. My regular climbing centre uses one grading system, but when I’m travelling around the country I might do bouldering or top roping at another centre that uses a different grading system, and it’s not always obvious from the grades on the wall which system they are using (and the examples in the app don’t always display enough grades to help you pick the right one) - but to change the grade system I have to go back to my phone, change it to whatever the new-to-me gym is using, then change it back to the system my usual gym uses when I get home. It’s not horrendous, just a little cumbersome and a pain to sort when you’ve just gone up a wall, come back down and realised the grade you’ve just climbed isn’t a grade in the system you’ve assigned to that climb type…
Has a potential
I was excited to find this app. Unfortunately it keeps crashing anytime I switch to sport climbing. It only sees ascents for bouldering. When I choose sport, it records it as bouldering with no ascents.
Useful, but kills watch battery
Have been using this for bouldering sessions for a few months and it has been great for tracking and capturing data, but have noticed that if you leave the app running (but not recording a climb) on your watch (i.e. you don’t explicitly kill it) the watch battery drains much faster. Something isn’t right in the watch app code as a background app shouldn’t be hitting the battery like this. If you kill the app through the task manager on the watch then battery life jumps back up.
Really slick UI and great features, but tripped up by bugs
The ability to add your own grading systems is great for bouldering gyms that don’t use V grades. The smart training tips based on session length and breaks taken are useful.
Automatic climb detection is usually ballpark accurate. You can set a default height per discipline, which is a great idea but doesn’t get used as much as it could - my top rope default height is set to 10m, so if I mark a top rope route as sent, adjusting a measured 9m to 10m would be good. Being able to set wall height per gym might be useful.
The most buggy part is the watch app interactivity during the session. Assigning a grade to your most recent detected attempt by pressing on it only works during maybe 1/20 sessions for me. For the other 19 sessions it just offers to “remove ascent”. This stops you from logging as you go which removes a lot of functionality for me.
Unless your gym has QR codes for routes set up, you can’t assign a route photo to a climb - understandably you can’t assign a QR code if there isn’t one, but I’d still like to be able to attach a picture I’ve taken of the route.
Baseline wander for altitude. I’ll try and pause the activity more and see if that helps at all, but the option to press a button to return your current altitude to “gym ground level” after a climb would be good.
Was 5 stars until latest watch OS 10.4
Was a great app, but since my watch updated to OS 10.4 (Apple Watch Series 6), Redpoint will only record that I have ascended 0m and done 0 ascents when bouldering - please fix it! The compass on the watch is correctly displaying altitude changes, so it must be the app.
Watch app doesn't work + no support available
Watch app logs all my climbs/bouldering problems as 0cm high, and when I emailed the team for support in troubleshooting it, I received no reply (waiting for 1 week and counting).
Great app!
Only been using this app for a couple of weeks but first impressions are good. Lots of interesting data, syncing between the watch and the phone is slick and the interface on both devices is intuitive.
Couple of points stopping it getting 5 stars, when switching between disciplines I’ve found that the grading system doesn’t update so if for example you start out bouldering using the Hueco system and then change to top roping, you can only choose V grades for your routes.
Second is that the app on the watch has crashed a couple of times. The data is still synced with the phone so nothing lost, but I’ve had to start a new session on the watch.
Otherwise, really enjoying it!
Good app!
Really like this app but the altitude is always way off!
Has let itself down
I orginally started using this and it worked out really well. Ive been using it fo 2 years now. A few problems with it.
*New phone device set up doesnt always sync the data, I lost a years worth of data with no support from the developer. Now that really hacked me off as it was my first ever year of climbing and I had really relevant measures in there to look back on for training.
*The grading tends to default back to it orignal setting rather than stay on the one chosen.
*The height swops between m and ft on its own during use.
* What is the point of having 'bouldering' and 'top rope' as separate climbs you can switch between, when the app just amalgamates them as the same climb rather than two different measures or grades. You could do a boulder at 4a and a top rope at 6c but the app doesnt allow you to log two grades, only one.
I have emailed the developer at least 3 times now and havent had any response (initially they were quite response in the beginning).
I use the app as a guide but now my data is all written in a log book. Frustrated and disappointed as this had the potential to be a good app but the developer just doesnt respond - its been months!!
I wont be promoting or using the app as my main log as its too unreliable and loses data.
Guide
When ever I try to open the guide it only opens for a second then just closes. I was wondering if you could tell me why
