TeX Writer - LaTeX On The Go

I like to work at different locations. Often I use LaTeX to produce mathematical texts or presentations. This app is easy to use with my iPad allthough I would prefer if I could use directly the swedish letters å, ä and ö. Also cutting and pasting is somewhat cumbersome. On the whole this app is very helpful.

This app is very useful for both students and scientists. It can be very useful to be able to edit your tex documents from an iPad or a phone. The only bad point is that you can't sync your work with dropbox or even iCloud.

Väldigt trevligt att kunna kompilera latex på iOS. Dessutom helt lokalt vilket gör att man inte är beroende av internet-uppkoppling eller någon tredje part. Stort plus för att man kan lägga till egna bibliotek, jag behövde tex den allra senaste versionen av pgfplots och kunde någotsånär enkelt ladda in den senaste versionen. Kräver dock lite pyssel, men det finns en bra guide på hemsidan. Sammantaget klockrent 5 stjärnor!

So I am not the most advanced user of LaTeX. I taught myself during my studies at Uni and mainly use it for making my résumé and some simpler tests for my students, but this has been a great supplement to my computer at home. The app had very little set-up and has not been giving me any real trouble so far (used it for roughly 4 hours of actual typing). I usually type in Latin-1, so the "only UTF-8" restriction took me a while to figure out but that was easy to work through. The fact that this is a fully featured editor and compiler of LaTeX is simply awesome and I have found myself being in awe of just how cool it is to be able to code TeX on my iPad - "the future, I like living in it". The syncing with Dropbox also worked seamlessly, though the possibility of choosing what map to use would be welcome - though I suspect Dropbox is behind this one. Over all I feel that this is a few well spent dollars (or whatever currency you use) for anyone that use LaTeX and own an iPad.

Assume it is ok if you want to create simple documents. But when I worked with larger projects I used to many package that was not included and did not manage to even open them. Did not like that the TeX Writer created a new folder where I had to put my documents, I wanted to be able to reach other folders in my dropbox. Liked the additonal keyboard.

Can't get the dropbox sync to work. Files and folders are not showing up in the app.

The package developer has completely ceased their internet presence in all ways. This package will probably never be updated. Buy something else.

There have been no updates for a couple of years and it seems impossible to access documentation on website. What used to be an excellent app no longer is. You used to be able click PDF file to go to relevant place in tex file but this no longer works after a recent IOS update. So sorry that what used to be an excellent app is now so outdated.

This is a very primitive app. You can’t even navigate to folders elsewhere on the iPad. Go with a free program first and see if it works for you.

The app is the best iPad LaTeX app I've found (at least when Dropbox sync works)! The Dropbox sync is relatively clean once I figured out how it works (I have to sync manually using the "Sync" button in the "Open file" menu), it has tools to download desired packages, and it compiles offline. The interface takes some getting used to but is quite usable after that. The problem is the sync: my iPad is not my primary computing device, so I would like to be able to cleanly move from my computer to my iPad and back. Dropbox sync is buggy: I have to manually sync the files, and when I do, usually I get an error message and have to unlink and relink to Dropbox. OneDrive sync doesn't work at all. That is, I have a OneDrive account through my institution that I sign into using SSO, and the OneDrive sync in this app refuses to acknowledge that my OneDrive account exists. No sync to Box is available. So the Box synch is about as functional as the OneDrive sync but at least it doesn't pretend to exist.
