TOFINO & WHISTLER — With today’s announcement by the Passenger Transportation Board, Whistle is the first ride hailing company in BC to be licensed for operation.
Local to Tofino BC, Whistle will launch first in Tofino followed by a launch in Whistler, both resort areas applied for in the application. Operations will expand over the year into the neighbouring communities of Ucluelet, Pemberton and Squamish.
Explains Whistle founder Dylan Green, “I previously operated an inter-city bus company in Tofino for 15 years, and well know the challenges resort communities face during peak visitation periods, such as holidays and weekends. I see ride-hailing as a new transportation alternative that will provide real solutions for Tofino, Whistler and their neighbouring communities.”
In resort towns, ride-hailing will provide tourists and visitors with effective transportation. But uniquely, it will also help local residents, many of whom must commute to work outside their community, by offering pooled rides. Ride-hailing’s ability to add many casual drivers with their own vehicles will finally make it possible for a small transportation company to have enough cars on the road during peak demand times.
“Smartphone apps have an amazing ability to connect people together to solve transportation barriers that have existed for years. The Whistle app matches other industry leaders in quickly connecting passengers with certified drivers, for an upfront fare, from customers' phones. Passengers may also choose to share their ride, aiming to reduce fares for locals who often have to commute from outside of town to work.”
Mr. Green has operated buses in 40+ BC communities and knows the key importance of driver training to grow the licensed driver pool. Whistle is actively pursuing drivers in both Tofino and Whistler. Safety is a key component in the new ride-hailing rules, so finding qualified drivers with the right vehicles will take time. We expect many local drivers will be excited to help launch a new transportation industry, and especially to have the ability to drive on their own time, with their own vehicle, and earn the majority of the fare. Interested drivers can sign up at whistle.ca.
Being the first ride-hailing company in BC is both a big responsibility and a huge opportunity for a small, local company. We are grateful for the opportunity to launch ride-hailing in Tofino and Whistler.

A solution to a problem
Whistler doesn’t have access to Uber/Lyft so this app is perfect for the community, I was able to use the app with ease. I also really enjoyed the fact that you can schedule a time for rides. That feature is beneficial and will help you plan better. The drivers are also very friendly and helpful it feels more like a tour guide than just a driver. Really liked this app.
Incredibly inefficient
Would give 0 stars if I could. Uber is not allowed to operate in Whistler. Nearly impossible to get a ride from village past 10pm. Regularly 30min+ lines waiting for taxis from village at night.
Super convenient and helpful!
The rides come quick and the drivers are very nice and flexible. Left an item in one of the cars and the company was very helpful in returning the lost item! Highly recommend when looking for rides in Whistler!
Respond to email
Sent Whistle an email with my ICBC details. No word back since.
Is Uber in Whistler yet?
Thank you!!
So impressed with Whistle! Used the app two nights in a row and had a lovely driver, and when I accidentally left my wallet in the drivers car they drove it back to me before noon the next day! Thank you so much Andrew & Liam!! Highly recommend
Bacon SAVED our BBQ!
Had a BBQ at my friends house and had everything I needed - booze, cheese, sauces, buns, but forgot the most important part, the burgers!
Grabbed a quick ride to Creekside just in time to get some, and Mr.Bacon kindly waited and gave me a free ride back. Thank you Mr.Bacon for saving the BBQ!
Terrible customer service
Nobody responds to emails or phone calls. The app isn’t working properly. Nobody is willing to help. Nobody to talk to in order to escalate.
The drivers are great. I just can’t order a car because of lack of app support.
Left before pickup time
I ordered a whistle, it said 6:30 pickup time (I ordered around 6.) I went to go get ready, and got a call around 6:20 that it was here. I was like cool, not quite ready I’ll be a few mins. At 6:26 the driver Mark left and marked me as late, 4 minutes before the app said the pickup time was. Got a refund and deleted the app :)
Amazing Service
I had a trip with Roman, was just an excellent guy. Arrived on time allowed us our choice and the fare was a very fair price. I look forward to using the service again
Exceptional service and staff.
Just had an amazing experience with our Whistle. Fast arrival with great conversation. And to top it off, found my wife’s phone and returned it.
Highly recommend for anyone needing a lift in whistler.
