Only thing i miss is support of fb2 files.
The only independent ebook reader out of scores of those checked by me - that supports epub3 books fully, including beautiful pop-up notes. There are some minor issues with re-connecting to OPDS catalogs (I had to delete and re-launch the search in order to reconnect), there are some issues with the bookshelf user interface (I’d love to see it be able to ‘stack’ the books by groups, instead of showing a rather ugly folder structure), but otherwise this is the ONLY independent reader I’d recommend - also because the developer is responsive, helpful and kind enough to explain various epub matters to the most inexperienced users! Thank you!
Recently moved to this reader from abandoned Bukus. Very fast & convenient application, support team is responsive and helpful. Some additional things can be easily customized (context menu options, reading style etc). The only thing I was surprised of was related to automatic sync between the devices - it works in manual mode only and can’t be changed (yet). Hope developers will improve it in future releases. Thanks.
Don't get me wrong, the app in general is good but it appears to be killing the battery of my Ipad Air, which is supposed to have about 10 hrs battery life. I am only reading with Mapleread for about 3 1/2 hrs and I am out of juice. System confirms that the only app using my battery is this one.... With other apps including webbrowsing, video etc I nearly get to the advertised hours of battery life.
I would love to give this app a 4.75. It is the BEST alternative to my previous favourite app for reading ebooks, Marvin. The syncing feature of this app is what requires fixing. Here is an example of where the syncing fails. [As described in the very informative help pages on the website, the same book (i.e. a book with the same ID) must appear on every device for the syncing to work.] I have a book that syncs very well when the following procedure is followed: (1) Click the sync icon on my iPad; (2) Open the same book on my iPhone and click the sync icon. Perfect. The syncing works as it should. Go back to the iPad. Read say twenty more pages. Leave the app on the iPad or simply close the book. Go to the iPhone. Click on the sync icon. NOTHING happens. Why? From what I have worked out, if the sync icon is not clicked when leaving the book on one device, the other device does NOT sync. I would like the developers to ensure that when the app is closed or a switch is made to another app on a device, the sync icon does its job AUTOMATICALLY. Otherwise, the syncing becomes useless if the user forgets to play tag with the sync icon. Marvin had this non-user intervention sync working perfectly. I would strongly recommend this application to users and I hope that the syncing feature is fixed soon. The technical support is also excellent. Quick and detailed replies via email are extremely useful when the user needs help.
Constantly freezes; can’t handle large books; a serious disappointment. Avoid!
With KyBook 3 seemingly on the outs, I’ve moved to MapleRead. It’s a good app even it lacks some of the functionality present in KyBook and Marvin. Top of the list is that it’s not configured for an iPhone 11 Max as it doesn’t use the full screen. You also can’t sort your books manually. It would also be nice if the app indicated which books you’d finished reading. The metadata is good, but it would be great if it could collect that information from the web. Also, I’d love it if the metadata included a word count. Overall, though, it’s a good product with plenty of potential.
Normally I love this app very very much however with the latest update I can’t seem to open the app on my iPad I am very reluctant to delete the app and reinstall it because I have a lot of files stored on it and I keep trying to open it and it keeps force closing itself I’ve even restarted the iPad I turned it off and turned it on and it still not working seems to happen every time there’s a major update the iPhone version of this app works perfectly fine there’s always issues with the iPad I can’t even get past the book background to access the settings for this app please fix this ASAP I don’t want to have to re-download all files onto this
How come I can’t do custom order of PDF books?
I love this app. I own a Kindle and an iPad, and both Amazon and Apple could take lessons on what features should be in a reading app from this one. With that said, I really wish this app worked on the Mac as well as on an iPad. The Apple Books app is terrible, without any good way to organize a large library. The Calibre app is great for organizing a library, editing ebooks (ebooks without DRM, and so many ebooks today come with a large number of typos that they need editing), and tracking metadata, but Calibre’s reading applet leaves much to be desired. Maple Read lets me sort books by author, series, series number, and then title, making it much easier to find books that belong to a series and where they belong in that series, much like Calibre, but it also lets me control the fonts and display when reading, an area where Calibre is quite limited. I don’t know what is required to make an iPad app work on an M1, M2, or M3 Mac, but I think a lot of readers would prefer this to Apple Books, if you could make it available to us. Thank you.
