Beware! Volaris depends on overbooked flights
I booked a flight only a month in advance, so the deal already wasn’t great. A day before the flight the app would not let me check-in, the error code stated that I did not have a seat assigned and I need to speak with the desk before the flight. I arrived 3 hours early to alert the staff that the app was not letting me check-in and they had me wait in line for 1 hour and forty-five minutes with everyone who already had a boarding pass. Before I even made it to the front of the line, they began calling over anyone on my flight because they were about to begin boarding. When I finally got to speak to a representative, he told me that the flight was overbooked and that I would be placed on the standby list. When I asked if I could instead be moved to the next available flight he told me that I would be forfeiting my already expensive ticket because I wasn’t denied boarding yet. He wanted me to purchase another ticket for a flight that left 10 hours later! I chose to wait to get denied to rebook(I was #8 on the list), but the flight was delayed by 2 hours and 45 minutes. They still couldn’t move me to the next available flight, even with a large delay. I had to wait and get denied. While waiting I got to speak to other passengers and some of them had purchased their ticket the day before! When the flight was already overbooked! When most people had entered the plane, they didn’t only had 4 seats left and they had 12 passengers on the standby list. Among the passengers denied were: an elderly lady with her very young granddaughter, a woman with a brain tumor, and a father with his three young daughters (who were separated from their mother and their autistic brother who did not get placed on standby and did board the plane). The remaining four seats were supposed to be based off of the list (first come first served), but one of the passengers (woman in her late 30s) that did have a seat assigned complained that her husband was on the standby list and if he didn’t board then she didn’t board. They bumped #4 on the list and instead gave the seat to the man who was last on the standby list. When I went back to the check in stand to change my flight, they no longer had the flight that left 10 hours later! Instead they had one that left 3 days later! I asked how often something like this happens and the staff member told me that this was an everyday occurrence for them! They overbook every flight they can! They offered me a hotel and one meal ticket per d
