Warmshowers App

Doesn’t work at all. Lost money.

A wonderful community of cyclist willing to host and needing to be hosted is let down by an app that badly needs an update. The basic function of contacting members and requesting to be hosted often lets you down with messages undelivered or received suddenly 10 days after you needed them! Website seems better .

Recently “updated”, this is basically unusable. The developers clearly don’t have an appreciation of what a modern UI should look at feel like, and no comprehension of UX. it’s a frustrating mess that forces us to use the website which is potentially even worse. I want my money back, but unfortunately the money is the only way we have to access this community. Such a shame it has to be done through the lenses of these awful interfaces.

Had to pay a one off charge, but states this is the only charge (£30!!) and now it wants me to pay a monthly subscription to use anything. Terrible and app and horrible profiteering

For such a great platform it’s the worst app I’ve ever paid for. I cant do anything from the phone which beats the purpose as I’m trying to use it when bikepacking, without laptop. I get issue telling me to complete sign up despite it is all filled in. It doesn’t let me log out to restart. It crashes when I try to log out. Please fix it. It is a lot to pay for service that doesn’t run properly.

Is it just my phone or does the app crash the second it opens

Whatever I do. It locks up. Add to itinerary - locks Send message - locks Report an issue - locks Click anywhere - locks How can it be this bad and have the audacity to charge for it??? I want a refund. I’m a long term user and host of warmshowers. The website has always worked. The app from many years ago worked. This is not worth paying for. Can someone from Warmshowers explain how this has been released and not fixed?

Awful app, lags terribly, crashes frequently. Needs investment and serious work if it’s going to be taken seriously.

What a difference from the website. The UI is bad. Need to log in which is fine but then it did not remember me and I had to log in again. Does not remember my password. No Face ID (lol) that would be too advanced for the level of this app. Also they want an active subscription. On the website it works with donations. It feels like a scam, maybe this is just a fake. In any case even if this is the real warmshowers, the app is so bad developed that a subscription to cover the costs of making the app doesn’t really make sense. This is amateur level.

First used warmshowers several years ago just before the website died. I’d donated a few times so don’t, in principle, mind the subscription fee as understand it must be a weighty thing to maintain. Reality is though that this app should be canned and just run a mobile first website instead, hopefully saving ongoing developer fees and lowering overall cost back to a level which can be sustained by donations. Hard to see what meaningful functionality is gained via app.
