自律薄就是依据此道理设计的，它本质上是一个努力与放松的“记账薄”。它采用记分制，用户自定义努力项，通过生活中实现它们来得分；然后自定义放松项，生活中享受它们需要扣除得分。得分不够的情况下，用户要管好自己，别去享受，等有了得分再来。努力项可以是某项工作，读某本书，体育锻炼，健康的生活方式等等；放松项可以是吃美食，打游戏，吸烟喝酒等等。
