Bad Elf GPS Reviews

Great Little Device

ancientaviator49 on

Just purchased the Bad Elf Pro. What a great little device! It syncs perfectly with my iPhone 5 and iPad. Very simple and functional app supports the Bad Elf . This has been very well thought out. It's a credit to the creators.

Buggy

Gets confused if more than one GPS PRO is connected. Doesn't refresh when dealing with tracks. Inconsistent behaviour when sharing tracks. More nightly problems. Usually restart helps. Sometimes complete reload required. All saved tracks are lost very poor effort. Hope this come good soon. Device very useful when it works.

Big Improvements

This is a major improvement on the last effort. The data download from the Pro is now very quick. The new time zone feature is good (unless you live in South Australia). The interface on the iPad really needs some work, but overall I am now very happy with both the Bad Elf GPS and its performance on my ipad3 and my wife's iPad1. Well done Bad Elf Team Hobo

purchased a unit from the company and while it worked with my iphone it would not work with my ipad2. Contacted the support site and was essentially sent extract from their faq. Looked carefully at the unit and observed that the pin was not coming straight out of the plug and this was preventing it from making proper contact in the dock which on the ipad2 is recessed below the front edge of the case. living in Australia returning unit was not a realistic option so filed a mm or two off the device around the plug on one side and retried it. Advised the support line and heard no more. Worked prefectly and went on to function with my navionics charts to give me good positions and tracks. Overall a great little device spoilt by poor quality control and assembly at the factory which had their not been a problem would have resulted in a higher rating

I've had it for years. I keep it in my Jeep, connected to my LiFePO4 off grid power system. Folks who are in my Jeep are welcome to pair to it. It blows Apple GPS out of the water because no cell tower dependancy!

Still a great GPS device after all these years, with a useful nice app.

The little Bad Elf and its app rated here have always done everything I’ve expected. Other than Bad Elf, the only better way to get GPS data is to buy a device - iPad in my case - costing hundreds more. ForeFlight and the various astronomy apps have limited utility without precise positioning. The BadElf app is at least a convenient trackline & elevation logger, and is also a functional mapping utility. APPLE: why are you pushing a rating for this app that is over *nine years* old? If I were the dev, I’d be furious.

Works well for me

I really don’t have any issues, it works well for driving, connects faithfully to both my iPhone and iPad. My only concern is I worry about iOs support. Since this apps last update was years ago.
