You're never far away from a fascinating day out and this useful app helps you to find the perfect historic place to visit in England. Whether you fancy a majestic castle, a beautiful historic house, an English garden or a magical ruin this handy tool is invaluable at getting you on your way to a brilliant day out.
Simple and intuitive to use, the app allows you to search for places to visit in a number of ways. Use the near me map or list to find out what's around your current location, or discover places based on your selected region or county as well as any specific needs like somewhere that's great for the kids, something coastal, or places that welcome dogs.
A great app for anyone on the move or planning a trip, you can explore all 400 English Heritage places to visit and never be lost for ideas for a great day out again.
This could be such a valuable resource for members but sadly it looks like it has been left to die. The UI is very dated, the functionality is poor and the app is slow.
I appreciate this takes a financial and time investment from English Heritage but I think this app should be prioritised by management and trustees much more.
Personal recommendations:
- Update so it looks good on modern devices.
- Have the full up to date handbook as standard.
- Put audiotours behind a modest paywall, with audiotours which accompany a video so people can tour from their phone.
- Integrate the podcasts into the app.
- Have a digital membership card accessible through the app.
- Have a video section with short films and documentaries about sites and relevant historic subjects.
I know my ideas are ambitious. But it would take English Heritage to the next level and be a great members recruitment tool.
Awful
This is a terrible app. The map doesn’t work. It’s hard to navigate and doesn’t reflect how brilliant English Heritage sites are.
Rubbish app
See the National Trust app for a guide to how this app should work.
Very poor
Unable to load map get locations but no map. Very slow
Terrible worse than web page!
Map has never ever loaded and a alphabetical list of sites is next to useless on holiday. All I want is a map view of those near me as a default and that’s just not possible. Why is that so difficult to do ?
Could do better ….
… because it’s nigh impossible to do worse!
This is an awful App. It’s supposed to be the ‘go to’ App for English Heritage, but it fails miserably to function as expected.
I won’t catalogue its many downfalls, the fact that you’re reading this review means you’ve already discovered them. 😡
One of the worst apps ever
The fact that this app hasn’t been updated in 2 years says it all
Terrible
Quite possibly the worst app I have ever downloaded. I could make a better one over the course of a weekend by myself. Very sad, was hoping to for a useful app to help me explore all the sites I have access to with my membership.
Map section never works.
Hopeless app. National Trust one is brilliant so copy theirs!
Maps don’t work.
This app is useless, better off using the website to get an information. Maps don’t work at all. Deleted app, and reloaded, still doesn’t show a map.
