Espresso from The Economist Reviews
The content is great! IF you can ever access
I’ve been a subscriber since 2014. Lately, not a day goes by that it doesn’t ask me to subscribe. Even though I already pay.
Really not very cool. Half of my time spent daily on the app is trying to access the content that I already paid for.
Refreshing
A magnificent achievement. This app is easy to use and to the point. I love the easy access to videos and podcasts. The economist staff has done an amazing job on this one. Nice work!
just like an espresso
unforgettable, buttery, silky in a 5-10 min drink.
The failure of your magazine
You lake if respect for the capabilities of the sitting President, and especially your ignorance of the dynamics of US election.
Cancel my subscription , sad after so many years but I have observed your flash and your judgement decline. Essel Bailey
Paid subscribers beware!
Espresso doesn’t offer enough quality news articles, and when you want to cancel, they’ve used dark design patterns to keep you stuck on a subscription. Their “Cancel subscription“ button is not clickable, and their live chat never sends an agent after stating, “You’re 1 in line…” Unfortunately, I’ve been paying for this subscription longer than I desired.
Espresso too Lite?
Am enjoying quick reads with Espresso but would more enjoy a little more length and incisiveness. Perhaps quick links to backup articles without having to leave the app?
Read (not listen to) the key news moving the world
I like the content of the app…but I don’t much care for the audio version. I find that the speakers for the audio version are not of the same high caliber as those for The Economist; and listening to the repetitive bore of the daily quiz, combined to having to listen to who the weekly winners are is a major distraction. As a result, I now prefer reading the Espresso rather than listening to it.
Doesn’t play the correct date
The app keeps playing yesterday’s story. This has been happening since 2023. I reported this to the Economist several times but their teams obviously have not taken action. This seems like an easy fix compared to how much we’re paying for this. It displays the correct date and title stories but the audio is the same as from the day before. It takes me several attempts of closing the app and restarting it to play correctly. Also, can you get rid of including the daily quiz in the audio? It’s SO ANNOYING!
Confusing Data Tracking Policy
The option for “Do Not Sell My Data” offered, however, it is stated that the app will still collect and share personal data with 3rd-parties when it benefits the UX of the service. Why give an option at all?
Furthermore, if “Do Not Sell My Data” is enabled the ability to select interest for the 3 daily redirects back to the Privacy Settling page until the option is disabled.
The main condensed content available aside from this is well written easy to access.
The Best Morning Jolt
Espresso is the weekend morning jolt of news and analysis my mind craves. I have to have to function on Saturday and Sunday. Thanks so much for putting it together for us.
