Description
The EU Exit: ID Document Check app lets you confirm your identity online, as part of your application to the EU Settlement Scheme.
By using this app, you will not need to send us your identity document by post.
Who can use the app
You must be resident in the UK and either:
• be a European Economic Area (EEA) or Swiss national
• have an EEA or Swiss national family member, if you are not a national of a country in the EEA or Switzerland
If you are not an EEA or Swiss national, you must have a UK issued biometric residence card or permit (provided you are in the UK) to use this app. If you do not have one, you will need to apply by post instead.
Before you start
You will need to be in a well-lit area, so you can take a good quality photo of yourself.
You will need either:
• your passport or national identity card, if you are an EEA or Swiss national
• your UK issued biometric residence card or permit (provided you are in the UK), if you are not an EEA or Swiss national and have an EEA or Swiss national family member
You need to use:
• an iPhone 7 or newer
• iOS 15 or later
If you use a national identity card without a biometric chip, you can still use this app but will need to send us the card by post.
How it works
1. Take a photo of your identity document.
2. Access the chip in your identity document using your phone.
3. Scan your face using the camera on your phone.
4. Take a photo of yourself for your digital status.
What happens next
The app only helps confirm your identity. You must complete the rest of your application online separately. We'll tell you how to complete your application when you finish using the app.
Privacy and security
The app is safe and secure. Your personal information will not be stored in the app, or on the phone when you finish using it. For information on staying safe online please visit the UK Cyber Aware website.

Can’t read chips
I use an iPhone, your app can’t read any chips. Is this a discrimination against EU citizens?
Again slow administration
They give you the option to use a foreign number but it doesn’t work ;) take a UK number to do this process (maybe they do it on purpose to slow down your process 🤷🏻♂️)
The app doesn't work
I've tried to switch from pre-settle status to settle status and when i scan the passport the app say: "You've already completed all the steps in the app. If you need help completing your application to stay in the UK, you can contact us."
Doesn’t work
The app doesn’t work properly and for more than 3 times I have been blocked for 24 hours….
Can’t apply!
The app won’t let me log in and complete my switch from pre settlement to settlement. I get the following message: “You've already completed all the steps in the app. If you need help completing your application to stay in the UK,” I haven’t applied so I don’t know what the app is talking about
Worst app
Intransigent UK mistreating and disrespecting EU citizens, the only thing the app is useful for is working on your pain tolerance threshold
Does not work
I have tried it multiple times over the last few months, unfortunately the app never works. It does the checks and then nothing happens. When you try again, it says you might have to wait 24h
Unable to scan passport
Settled status: App is able to scan biometric residence card straightaway, both sides Multiple attempts and unable to find chip in passport, leading to being locked out of app
This app app bugs me off
Everything everything going smooth until something happen all documents went through but when you scan chip it goes crazy after few tries worked now says all steps nearly complete now I need call it and do it by phone
