Groovebox - Beat Synth Studio

I used this app for the last months and I have to say that it sounds great. The workflow is very good and the UI is very clean. I hope it will get some updates in the future for production. For example export of the final mix as a whole song (playing each section after the other) is very important. Currently we can export each section separately but it looses its flow. If you export all parts and then try to combine them one by one on another daw, it will not result in the same. Even if you try to record your whole piece by doing it live and recording you will still have great chance to loose a beat. Maybe they could add sync start on each section so when you click on the next section, it will start only when the previous ones ends. Also we would really want to see a new module. Maybe a module with cleaner less muddy sound, for those who want to create something less groovy and clean. Also a new module dedicated for ambient music would be great (granular/sample based nature sounds). And finally a new module with more accoustic less electronic instruments. These are good ideas for future updates and we all know that most of us will buy them ;)

What all the other reviewers said + There is some serious analog modeling behind this app and I love it! But... the fact that there is no polyphony option on the Minimon (wavetable synth) feels kinda... sad. I would love to see a mono/poly option and also better midi capability (like pitch bend and midi learn).

Great app with great sounds! It lacks of proper Midi In functionality (such as selecting midi controller and midi channel per module , midi learn) but I couldn’t resist on 5 star rating since the basic app is free !

It has been a very long time , perhaps since music maker jam that an app impressed me that much! Instand inspiration for the music ear! You can produce amazing stuff just by trial and error and then edit those wonderful pieces into great electronic stuff! There are some things I would love to get implemented so who knows they might hear me out! 1. Please in export have a ALL sections wav out by playing all patterns in a row. 2. Please add a simple ( advanced welcomed too) EQ per instrument. 3. Please a wave import for drum instrument. 4. Please add NEW instruments for wider sonic spectrum, maybe some like Moogs, Prophet etc replicas with in-app buys of course! 5. Please make your mixer a true mixer and not volume only one by letting audio unit effects plugins possible and where the eq should also exist there! Thats my humble suggestion to sky rocket this amazing app! Take care.

Very nice app and sounds! Would prefer the random pattern button to be be truly random and not some precomposed patterns..Also would be nice to be able to save user presets from synths..

I like Groovebox because the layout and simplicity of the app makes it so easy to create a good song sketch (for electronic music). Unfortunately, the app is missing features that would make it an amazing and complete sketch tool. For me, the biggest issue is the lack of MIDI out. If I could sketch a song in Groovebox, start with stock sounds - then set each track to a MIDI channel out to hardware or another DAW…this would be my main sketching tool. Other cons? - Very limited piano roll (It can’t be split by a specific note value) - No AU version - No audio channel outputs - Automation is mysterious and limited. (Can’t map to a controller? Is it using CC’s?) - Can’t record audio loops. (Which would be fantastic for developing vocals, adding guitar or something else) It seems like the dev has not intention of adding to this app; so, I’m looking at other apps, but this is good for someone new to music production.

Cool sounds and fun

This is a great app but i sure wish it had song mode. It is easy to use and inspiring for a newbie like me.

I’ve had this for a couple of years. I can’t say enough about how great this app has been for my workflow. It’s easy to use, friendly, straight to the point and effective. And that’s without any purchases yet. The sound quality of the files are amazing and I plan on purchasing a lot of the additional features they also provide. This is not only an intuitive programmable drum machine, it’s also a fully in depth sound designing tool, it has some great features if you know your music theory and you’d like to program some chords to see how they sound as a loop. 10/10 recommended
