Hanx Writer

I love this app and have been using it for some time. However, it crashes when I’m in the middle of typing something. Also, is it possible to have this app on MacBooks? I like the typing style and animation sounds as well. Please update this app when you can.

If you have an IPad Pro with an external keyboard (I don’t know if this is a problem for other IPads) you don’t hear the sounds. Also, If you show the keyboard, the size isn’t right, and it just sits on the top left corner. If you tap the keyboard using the screen, it does make a sound. But when you type on the external keyboard, it doesn’t make a sound.

Updated Review: Unfortunately the app is crashing every 3-4 minutes on my ipad Pro. This is unacceptable and has made the app unusable. This app has a lot of potential. I love the concept. I'm only writing this review because I'm disappointed that there doesn't seem to be an ability to set the margins. For example, the "ding" at the end of a line generally happens too soon for my preference and I wish I could change this (as one could on a real typewriter). Perhaps I've just missed this option, but I would greatly appreciate this ability in future versions. Thanks! Paul Murphy

Really, really enjoy this App

Now Does not work at all on iPad 10 or with iOS 18.2 it this is a pretty good program if all you want to do is use Hanx Writer or on-screen keyboard. If you want to use a Bluetooth keyboard, then you don’t get the typewriters. They are only available in Hanx Writer. Also, the iPad app and the iPhone app are two different apps. you can’t purchase all the typewriters for your iPad and then use them on your iPhone. You have to spend another $10!!! And the worst part is, after spend 99 cents for the keyboard extensions (which do carry over to your iPhone), it doesn’t work at all on iPhone. There’s a bar at the bottom of the screen that hides part of the bottom row of keys and the space bar. Totally unusable on the iPhone. But even worse is the developer will not respond at all. I’d sure like to use the keyboard on my iPhone, but it’s useless.

I have to say I am quite disappointed with the developer, as there seems to be some sort of bug which introduces a “timeout” of sorts. I purchased each keyboard set many years ago, stopped writing, and just came back to start again only to discover all of the different typewriters are locked and I essentially would have to pay twice for what should be a lifetime purchase. Would love to give this five stars if this is addressed! Please contact me, dev!

This is the best typing experience I known on the iPad. It gets me through writer’s block because is it so fun to use.

It’s really pretty fantastic and lets you have such a different writing experience. I love it. The only thing keeping my review from five stars is that… welp, it crashes. Crashing is a super-bummer because it’s otherwise so much fun to use. I bought an iPad just so I could use the HanxWriter in combination with a QwerkyWriter keyboard: I have a pretty authentic-feeling typewriter experience that saves my writing electronically—yay! I have lots of real typewriters (I do live typewriter poetry), but for my Great American Novel, I want to save the step of rewriting first drafts into a computer for editing. This is a great and very fun compromise. I’ve only been using it one day, but the crashing makes me pretty sad. The interruption in creative flow is one thing, plus the shock of fear when it happens at what may have been lost. Hoping for the best. Thanks, Tom Hanks! If I didn’t love this so much, I wouldn’t be griping about the crashing. I love my HanxWriter and did upgrade, which I find a bargain at $9.99.
