This is an excellent app to read and annotate esp for academic research. I would suggest some additional features, though, to improve functionality. These include 1. Customisable colour palettes for annotation to choose our own colour combinations 2. True dark mode that displays the pdf as white text on black background.
Good idea but cashes often and unexpectedly. Not worth risking time spent and the annotations. Kindle may not be pretty but at least it works.
Simple enough to get started and go as intuitions, powerful enough for creating annotations and notes. Very considered design aligned with Apple design systems and system-level utilities. Just enough tools and functionalities for researching reading and note/summary. Margin notes and liquid text are very powerful indeed, but they are rather too complicated and confusing with their packed functionalities and can be very stressful to use, that’s why I switched to highlights. Only thing I hope to have is to allow sketches annotation. As currently it only has highlighters and sticky notes.
I would have given this app 5 stars for its ability to collect highlights from a pdf and export them easily, but now the app is redacting my notes so that most of the text is not visible and cannot be copied. I have reached out to customer support with no reply for weeks. This totally derailed my writing project. Very disappointed.
I really like this app, and how I can extract my highlights. It is a brilliant thing and I want to give it a higher rating. However, every time I use the app it crashes at least once but normally more often (it seems to be around once every twenty minutes or so). When this happens I can’t just close the app and reopen it, I have to turn off my iPad fully and then turn it back on and re-open the app. Usually at that point the previous PDF is open and I then have to go back and re-open the file I was working on. This is a real shame because it is a fantastic app, but given this happens every time I now feel like I need to start looking for an alternative.
As a user on the iPad with an Apple Pencil, it is extremely frustrating to use. I need to try at least 3 times before the app selects the text I want to highlight. Either it does not do anything, or more commonly, keeps zooming in and out whenever I tap the screen with my pencil. Change this function!! Would strongly recommend using a two-finger function to zoom in and out rather than tapping, because the app mistakes attempts to highlight with an attempt to zoom in and out. A productive app that makes one unproductive due to this bug. Would also strongly recommend being able to add a photo from elsewhere as sometimes we want to annotate with diagrams and equations instead of just typing a text.
At last! A PDF reader that works seamlessly with markdown linking perfectly back to the original location of your notes. The Bear App integration is almost perfect. One request: remove the H4 formatting from the links. Formatted text in Bear doesn’t work as a link.
l have been looking for this king of functionality for so long! Please add full compatibility with OneNote.
Incredible. The best PDF reader for compulsive note takers I’ve ever used. I used to use PDF expert, but you have the problem of the highlights being stuck within the doc. This apps creates a separate note as you highlight which is populated as you highlight more. Just like when using a Kindle. Easy export to Evernote or any file extension you could want too.
This will become the definitive note app for anyone doing research, especially with the links with DevonThink and Keep-It. As others have mentioned the real breakthrough will be the incorporation of handwriting. Hopefully that will arrive soon.
