Ok if you are a uk citizen and have a residence in the uk it is potentially great.
But very limited if you live and reside abroad, you can not fill in online tax returns via the app or the gov.uk website.
You can not upload documents to the tax office either.
And worse still the amount of cookies and data analysis is absolutely over the top. Over 50 it would appear even if you said no to tracking.
Seems every document they send abroad has the message saying it is possible to file online then you try and get a notice at the end of filling not possible to submit.
Seems you need to learn how to do it from Scandinavian systems. So much more efficient private and secure.
For a UK Government app…

Worst login experience of the decade. What is this 2004? Why does the login screen keep timing out and disappearing after 10 seconds or a quick app change to check the code that you just emailed.

I’m so happy to have discovered the HMRC app . It holds all the information I need and has made paying my tax bill super easy .

Tonight 2/1/2025 I paid my Self-assessment tax bill to HMRC. No problem using the app.

First sign up to the app. Asking for the goverment ID, copy in, the app starts over. No problem. Asking for the one tume code sent via text. Open text, check the code, back to the app…app starts over. Start over again, check text, code expired because is a new login. In the loop now, congrats.
App Error
This morning (01 Jan 2025), I opened the app to make a payment into my Help to Save account. However, the app closed unexpectedly, and now, when I log back in, it says a payment has been made and that I can’t make another until February. I’ve checked, and no payment has actually been processed.

Awful app
It’s hard to login. If you are using multiple apps, it just takes you back to the previous page. Therefore, you cannot copy and paste the 12 digit number and password and MFA.
The IT civil servants are useless. I’m glad I didn’t accept their job offer.
