Lightme - Lightmeter

A clean, powerful lightmeter

Published by: Giuseppe Bertolini

Description

Lightme - Lightmeter is a clean, simple to use yet very powerful lightmeter.
It is optimised for an easy one-handed use, both for left-handed and right-handed users, with the main controls within your thumb's reach, without the fatiguing juggling of your precious smartphone.
A core distinguishing feature of Lightme - Lightmeter is that - differently from most of the other apps - it can show multiple combinations of valid settings for aperture and shutterspeed at the same time by working like a - stretched out - old needle and wheel lightmeter. This allows the user to quickly pick the desired settings without having to scroll on a tiny wheel picker.
The app is designed to be welcoming to people who are just starting out, with a simple one-button use. But it offers many useful and advanced features for the more experienced shooters/users:
Continuous metering (by pressing and holding or double tapping the measure button)
Spot metering with a variable zoom (for more precision) which also supports average metering, and a very intuitive implementation of the zone system
Automatic reciprocity failure compensation (for 25+ films, if you see exposure times in red, they are being compensated)
A dedicated pinhole mode with precise exposure times for user defined apertures (multiple apertures at a time), with the possibility of setting a timer (through a shortcut)
Incident light metering with calibration when using the front facing camera
And more ...
It also includes some other features that are enjoyable by any kind of user:
Black and white preview
The ability to use any of the cameras on your smartphone (swipe left/right on the preview)
Multiple presets for your different camera/film/lens setups
Framelines for previewing your shot, before setting up your tripod etc.
A searchable list of useful tips to make better use of the application's potential
A searchable list of more than 70 films to choose from with the possibility of selecting a few favourites
Dark mode support and a useful level of customisation
You can find even more info in the tips inside the app or you can have a look at full user manual by tapping on manual (in the settings)
The app is free in all its many functionalities, but it offers In-App-Purchases in order to support the project.
The only minor perk you can enable only via certain IAPs is the replacement of the Ad button with a label containing the name of your current preset, check under settings -> coffee for more info.
Don't panic though, even if there's an Ad button it doesn't mean I'm going to show you ads. In fact unless you decide to tap on that button I'm never going to show you any. But if you have a few minutes to spare, watching a few of them sure helps keeping this project alive :)
Try it, and, if you like it, share it with your friends and consider writing a (mini) review ;)
Have a nice day, and good light!

The best lightmeter app!!

Everything is there in term of functionnality and the frameline tool is a MUST. This app is better than any paid app!

The One!

Honestly, best app… Everything on one screen, very intuitive, accurate, lightning fast, beautiful interface. Thank you so much Giuseppe!

The only tool you need PERIOD

Great app, the only missing part is the ability to give time compensation for getting reciprocity failure correction. For example on rollei 80s the datasheet does not give a ratio but a measured time vs compensated time.

Awesome UI

Very nice work! However it seems there’s a bug as it doesn’t work the way you described in your last reply: in the film selection window, when “all” goes from “selected” to “deselected” state, all films go to “selected” state and no “deselected”. It means that you have to click on all ~50 checkboxes to remove them. A “deselect all” button or deselecting all films when “all” go to deselected state would make sense.

Very nice and astonishingly honest app

Seems to work perfectly well (I say „Seems“ as I habe not yet tested is with a film) Results are the same as my old Gossen Lunasix. I will now study thé détails. Very impressed as it is really free! Some Apps are announced as Free and later ist turns out they are just free for some time or useles without buying additional stuff. Most impressive - no advertising. You can chose if and when you will see some adds-which I will certainly do. There are always 15 seconds to spare. Thank you.

This is the best app I could find on iPhone. The interface is simple but there are all the functionalities I needed. Awesome app!

Fantastic Lightmeter App!

Well designed and thought out layout. It’s easy to use and does everything you need to. Both amateurs and pros should find it useful. The way it shows all combinations of shutter speeds matched with apertures wasn’t something I initially thought I would need but it’s incredibly helpful.

Best light meter app for iPhone

I’ve tried several light meter apps for my film photography and none of them are as amazing as this one. First of all, it’s very well designed and super easy to see multiple aperture and shutter speed combos all at once for whatever exposure it reads. A super duper plus is that it can calculate reciprocity very accurately and even has reciprocity values for some film stocks already in the app. It has more features than even I need, like frame lines and focal length approximation. Overall, I’d recommend this app to anyone who wants a light meter app for any photography, it’s that good!

Oooh aaaaaah

Hi! Love the app. Could you add the ability to change shutter angle? I'd like to use this app for cinema film

Works very well! Entire roll perfectly exposed.

Tried this all out while testing a Yashica D TLR with Kodak Gold 200. Setting up the app to your cameras and films settings takes a little time but isn’t hard. All 12 shots came out perfectly exposed, and the link the log book app let me review each shot. Really well thought out pair of apps for film shooters.
