Mindscope is a new and powerfully simple way to store your thoughts without getting lost in the details.
• Quickly create text entries with a double-tap and drag them around, aligning them to each other. Perfect for brainstorming, capturing, and sorting thoughts or taking notes.
• Tapping an entry enters its own page where you can create more entries (and as many sub-boards as you like).
• Drag entries into other entries to quickly sort your thoughts into categories and projects.
• Keep track of lists, todos, notes, and anything else you feel like keeping track of, for example a list of ways to be funny when writing an app description. Or something.
• Copy and paste entries including their sub-entries
• Export all entries and sub-entries of a board via e-mail as a bullet list.
• Import any saved .mindscope file.
• Set a default font size for any board (long-press on a font size and select "Set As Default"
All of the above, as a universal app, with iCloud sync...completely for free! Yeah, I know, I can't believe it either. You can "pay" me with an App Store review, how does that sound?
However, if you are up for spending money, with the "Unlock Everything" in-app purchase, you can also save your own .mindscope files, search through all your entries instantly, create cross-links between boards, create arrows and lines between entries, set up a grid background for a page, set your own colors per page, and export boards to an OPML file (suitable for opening in most major mind-mapping programs). Any upcoming features in future updates will be included for the unlocked version at no extra cost.

How much does Mindscope cost?
Mindscope has several in-app purchases/subscriptions, the average in-app price is £3.99.
I’m giving Mindscope 4 stars, because I needed a portable, fast way to fill in all aspects of novel planning, that could then be exported to other apps for desktop based planning and writing.
I haven’t explored that aspect yet, so I can’t give it 5 just yet. That will be the icing on this cake.
On my desktop I use Scapple from Literature and Latte who make Scrivener. Similar reason in the it’s a free placement system. However, I like Mindscope’s hierarchy system. This lets me have a short and snappy top level, and drill down for detail. Scrivener does something similar, but not free placement and the ipad version isn’t as good as the desktop anyway.
For reference, I’m still using the free version. But fast approaching buying and unlocking other goodies.
Paid the price
Seemed great and clean using the free demo, so plumped for the paid version. It now crashes out pretty much every time I add a new entry. Will be getting a refund and wait to see if any updates come out before looking again.
Promising, but ruined by one bug
The app stops responding for several seconds whenever it accesses iCloud, which is a lot. For a thought-organising app, this bug completely ruins it. Shame, it looks very promising, but I don’t understand how anyone can even get started on it when it’s constantly hanging. I could disable iCloud, but that would also make it pretty useless to me.
Invaluable
IMO this app shouldn't be viewed as competing against other mindmapping/outliners etc. It really comes into it's own when viewed the front end to an OPML based workflow. For example:
Starting with Mindscope: capture thoughts into iPhone (really quick and frictionless - no bogging down with a complex UI). Tidy up on iPad if needed. Output to OPML
Use iThoughts or OmniOutliner to further develop the basic content. Both work equally well on iOS or Mac
Other options include Scrivener and Tinderbox for the really adventurous
Mindscope = great front-end to this workflow
Just hangs on iCloud access
It looks great, For multiple versions now, I’ve hoped this would be fixed, but the moment I turn on ‘use iCloud’ the app just hangs forever. I’ve never got as far as any document creation. I can’t be the only one!
Promising
Really good layered note-taking - could do with sync to Dropbox as well as iCloud.
Great idea terrible sync.
Just what i wanted. A free form scratchpad and some.
However there does seem to be alignment and sync issues moving from 10.5 iPad to 12.9 to iPhone - things don't line up or sync. Not usable unless on one device only.
Update. I did amend to 3 stars before the developer reply. And I have emailed the developer. Hopefully there will be some fixes. I'm still like / am using the app but only one device.
Don't bother!
Downloaded the app (yes it is free). It has a hidden cost! You must pay £8 to use it actually. Apparently, you can't use any of the app features without paying first! Did the developers heard about free trial? If not, ask Omni Group! Secondly, the export options are very limited. You can't export as image and/or PDF! Have a careful look at Mindnode and iThoughts to learn more! Finally, if you claim that you copy Scapple for macOS, then I am sorry, it is not even comparable to Scapple and it would be so unfair to compare! App deleted!
A brilliant combination
(I believe this is only the second or perhaps third time I have written a review for an app)
I have only played with Mindscope for a few hours and, while it is not for everyone, if you like outliners, mindmaps etc you may be, as I was, totally bowled over by it.
It is clean, responsive and, while good on my iPhone, works like a dream on my iPad. The designer seems to have a achieved an optimum balance between apparent simplicity with an underlying depth. And even more importantly, it is fun to use.
I would however suggest that you _will_ need the 'unlock everything' option which changes this from a rather nice product to an amazing one.
