myGovID is the Australian Government’s digital identity app that allows you to prove who you are and sign in to participating government online services.
The myGovID app is different to myGov. You can use the myGovID app to sign in to your myGov account.
Set up your myGovID in three easy steps:
1. Download the myGovID app
2. Enter your details – including your full name, date of birth and a personal email address that only you have access to.
3. Verify your identity to increase your identity strength. There are three identity strengths – Basic, Standard or Strong. Increasing your identity strengths allows you to access more services and better protects your identity.
Increase your identity strength by verifying your Australian identity documents, like your passport, driver’s licence and Medicare card. These documents are checked against existing government records. You can also choose to verify you photo, this is a one-off face verification check, to further increase your identity strength. The app scans your face to check that you’re a real person, the right person and verifying in real time.
You need to be 15 years or older to set up a myGovID. However, age restrictions may also apply to use some government online services. To find out if you’re eligible to use a particular service, check its terms of use.
Your personal information won’t be shared without your permission - putting you in control. myGovID is accredited under the Australian Trusted Digital Identity Framework which strictly controls how your identity data is collected, stored and used. It uses encryption technology as well as the security features in your device, such as fingerprint, face and password. This is to protect your identity and help prevent other people accessing your information.
Your myGovID is unique to you – don’t share it with others.

Most confusing instructions ever
App always telling me I need to update the App, takes me to App Store, which then shows I have the most up to date App. So can never access it and now can’t access MyGov as a result. Great example of technology being worse than the non digital solutions we used to work with
Rubbish App!
I registered an account before I have driver license. Now I have driver license and want to use it to update my id level, but there is no button to scan it! And then I create a new account, and upload my driver license. After that I upload my medicare card, and the app said it has already be used and my account was locked! When I registered in my old account again, it can scan the driver license. But when I scan it, the app displayed it has been used and locked my old account too! Now I am calling the heat line, and have already been waiting for more than 1 hour!
What a rubbish app it is!!!

Even 1 star is too much
Low expectations but pleasantly surprised.
After reading other reviews (from 1 to 3 years ago) I was very hesitant about accessing this app.
I read the 5 star review which was very helpful and informative particularly with the password length (10 digits long with a combination of upper and lower case, letters numbers and special characters.
I’m guessing a lot of work has been done on this app as I rate myself as the average user and found it quite easy to use.
Not fit for purpose
This is a clunky confusing ap that should be completely revised from the ground up. If it worked, it would be used extensively, and take the pressure off the call centres, saving taxpayers $’s.
So JFDI, make it work.
Worst mistake I’ve made with government information
Accessing this app has been the absolute nightmare. It makes everything so much more difficult to access I wish I’d never downloaded this or even ever touched it. I hate this
The worst app…
Is there a minus 10 rating possible? I just don’t feel comfortable with it. If you try and call them you join the impossible queue for people who have a couple of hours spare. Another waste of our money

Terrible
When you change phones you have to restart the whole verification process but if you don’t enter the same email address, you may have forgotten which one you used, or exactly the same name ie middle names, you cannot verify your identity.
