I can’t switch the screen to dark background anymore which was so useful and better for the eyes when reading in the evening
I am an existing subscriber. now i suddenly get google ads (for new scientist subscription) inside the app overlaying article texts. my subscription is active and i‘m logged in. please tell me this is a bug!
I have been reading New Scientist for a few years now and only recently decided to get the online version. With this app, it is easy and convenient to have my New Scientist for a quick read anywhere anytime, current and passed issues! I highly recommend the magazine and its online subscription accessible through this app! 👍👍👍
It dépends pon hour expectation and yogur Background. I like NS because it keeps me informed about the subjects that are not mine. The only (small) negative point is it’s superficiallity. I would like it a little more in depth treatment on the subjects.
Overall, it's a good way to read New Scientist, except for a few frustrating features. Often when I switch back to the app after a while, the issue I have open closes, and I have to open it again to find my page. Other apps have similar behavior of losing state when switched to, but they then restore things back to how they were (for example, books in iBooks will close if I switch back to the app after a long time, but they will then reopen on the right page) so it must be possible to fix this. There doesn't seem to be a way of bookmarking pages either, so I just have to quickly remember something about the page I'm on before it closes, then try to find that article in the index. Another annoying thing is that some content requires an internet connection. Embedding content such as videos from the internet is a nice feature, but sometimes other images, perhaps with some kind of interactivity, are only found online, and there is no 'offline' version with whatever image would be in the print edition. I read New Scientist primarily while on public transport where there isn't necessarily an internet connection, so it's disappointing to find that this app is worse than the paper edition or the previous iPad edition for that.
A weekly collection of well curated short articles, that cheer me up while educating me. My favourite weekly read.
New Scientist has been part of my life for over 40 years ….. the app is brilliant …. Thoroughly recommended
After I stopped my subscription I tried to read past issues which I had bought and which I can no longer access without paying again. Robbery or fraud?
It’s good but could be better if these two things were included: 1. Ability to tap an article name on the magazine cover to take you to the article. 2. if when you played the magazine on Bluetooth it didn’t default to previously played articles from an earlier issue.
I love new scientist. It provides me with all the latest science news, and explains it all in a comprehensive way.
