Thar be dragons 🐉. Enforced licensing method fraught. Promise of cross platform appears only redemption. Privacy statement has no basis in reality. Years of goodwill lost.

Renamed FE app

am-gems on

Australia

Renamed app. All the release notes show that this is just a rename so that everyone has to pay again and also enter all server login info over. I paid for the pro version of FE. Now EOL? Check out the release notes for both apps and you will see that FE seems to be EOL and owlfiles is just the renamed app with a total break from FE Pro going forward with new payments required and no migration of settings, etc. Just read the developer response. Rather bizarre. Just look at the release notes of both this app and their other app. This app, despite being “Free from day one” has a subscription model. The older app, which has the same version history, except for a few of the latest ones, also has a Pro feature, which I bought. So I paid for the app already, but they claim they have made so many wonderful changes that they have to change the name, and charge us all over again for the “Pro” features. I have no problems supporting s/w. That is why I immediately purchased the Pro add-on for FE. This current behavior seems unethical to me, to clone the app I paid for and was supporting with my Pro purchase, claim it is now so wonderful I have to a) pay for it again and b) lose all my server settings and sync settings, re-entering them in the newly renamed “new” app.

Deleted most of my ebooks without warning

Couldn’t find FE File Explorer on my iPad. Gone. Noticed Owlfiles—and deleted it at once. Of course. Strange malware appearing for no reason. Later I discover the RENAMING of my FE program! Most of my books now missing and unrecoverable. What’s wrong with this picture? I have contacted the developer but my expectations are low and my disgust is high. Very high. I have to wonder what they were thinking…maybe it’s just me.

Paywall app

mejdiies on

Australia

Clickbait. Everything is behind a paywall. No support for network drives.

Oh no

sxchhfd on

Before you use this app install it and then delete it and when you delete it it takes everything that you’ve ever stored in it with it.

Not as advertised

ozmale on

Says allows assess to one network device in free version. It does this only once. If you want to access the same device again you have to pay.

Was happy paid customer until they disabled restore purchase!

ImahiroHasanaki on

Loved the product, having paid for the pro version via In-App Purchase, was very disappointed to see that the restore purchases option no longer exists, forcing one to buy the product again (ie: Pro version).

Be aware of app limitations of Pro version

Review1088 on

Australia

While the free version works on both iPhone and Apple TV, with expected limitations, the Pro version for one device does not work on both devices (unlike other similar apps). You need to purchase a Pro version for the iPhone AND a Pro version for the Apple TV if you want it on both. Otherwise I would provide a higher rating.
