Pixelmator Reviews

Does the job, with style

Having tried most of the big (and many small) photo editors and graphics creation apps for IOS, I keep coming back to this one. Mainly because it works in a way that seems largely intuitive to me. It isn’t overly complex, yet has enough versatility to cover most standard and some more specialised tasks. What I would LOVE to see added are the kind of graduated shaped and adjustable fades as seen in Xara Designer. For example,an elliptical fade that can be manually adjusted, revised and positioned at will.

Love it but….

All previous issues seem to be fixed, but I have noticed one thing. Why when all layers are hidden in the pxm file the file size about 549kb, but if the group is visible it’s 74.5MB! (All the data is still there when hidden) The above makes zero sense 🤔 if the layers are visible in the layer list, it inflates the file size quite a lot, but group them and close the layer group some how saves a whole load of MBs 🤔 not as much as hiding the group. Maybe you can look into it as my folder is getting quite large now due to the above, so I have started hiding all layers so files only take up KB instead of MBs. It’s a strange thing 😂 Update: 2.8.5 Save issue still there 😬 will send it to the support email. When it happened the share menu stop showing the share sheet, so I can’t share anything and if I back out of the editor it’s the spinning wheel of death 🙈 Also realised you can adjust the canvas, it’s under the crop menu. But you can’t just adjust the canvas to how you want, seems to follow some sort of aspect ratio 🤷‍♂️ Now we just need the following and it’s perfect. 1. Layer bar colour adjustment. (Make dark layers easier to see) 2. Quick rasterise of layers. (Currently need to hide all layers bar the one I want and use share > copy image) 3. Masks, this would be extremely helpful especial on groups. (Right now I need to select the layer I use a mask with the selection tool and delete the area on the layer I want to mask, it’s ok if 1 or 2 layers, but I have a few 😂 so masking groups would be great) Also not sure if this is intended, but when importing from PSD (exported to psd, copied layers over from other psd I exported) the shapes no longer let me adjust there radius, even though they still act like shapes. (Not converted to pixels) Also love the fact we can use Photoshop to modify the files, makes coping large amount of layers extra my simple, so very big thank you for this feature. Edit: Update 2.8.4 As of this update I have been having issues with files saving when editing them for a period of time. I will get a spinning loading symbol on screen and it will be there for ever or sometimes a very long time. If it doesn’t save I have to force quit the app and I lost a good few edits each time I have to do it. It’s frustrating to say the least. Also on a positive note, I love the app, just 4 niggles I have with it in its current state….

Does not save all changes

Jimbad on

I used to love this app, but it has become very buggy. The main issue in recent months is that it often fails to save changes. I might do a lot of work on an image, but when I close it the app forgets several of those changes, so I have to reopen it and repeat a lot of the work I had already done. It’s got to the stage where the advantages of the app are outweighed by the time-consuming inconvenience of its unreliability.

Muuuuuuch better welcome screen

Great, when it’s not crashing

Have been using this for an age, I love Pixelmator Pro on my MacBook and Mac mini. On the iPad (Pro 11” 4th Gen) I’ll be working on an image, generally something simple with two layers and freehand line drawings or tracing underlying images when things start going wrong. Occasionally it’s a full blown app crash, other times when I’m pulling down control centre to lock orientation and return to the image I get a black screen and all my work is gone. I have wiped my iPad and started from scratch thinking it might be something iPadOS related but that has made no difference. It’s massively unstable at the moment to the point where I’m removing it from my workflows and using alternatives.

Great app for improving photos and removing objects

I really like this app. It is quick and easy to use for tidying up my photos.

Has became very buggy

GamingTurtle309 on

Used to be my go-to photo editing app, but as of recent there are tons of issues that are apparent in other reviews too. Will be working on a project, switch apps quickly, return and the app has decided to restart without doing any saves which it used to do (this is on an iPhone 14 PM, not an old slower phone btw.) In general has just seeming my became very counterintuitive, not sure if this is to push everyone into their new app and start paying subscriptions rather than buying your editing apps the old way 😐 Previous review: This app is brilliant, I use it more than any other photo app I’ve ever used and it is definitely worth the money. Would be great if we saw occasional new features being added (and a ‘what’s new’ pop up with every update). Would not mind if the features came out in packs that we could buy.

Buggy

Odd, buggy

Very good but there’s some things that could be added

CHIPSYT on

1 able to add textures to your text 2 able to change the opacity on the shadows Also when I go to erase parts of a text I can’t use a brush to add back the text 3 able to add more than one shadow Also would love to see some sort of highlight tool

3.0.7 still crashes

I really like this app. It is quick and easy to use for tidying up photos. However, very often when I use modify original to save the edited image back to Photos or when I exit the project to return to the Recents / Photos / Templates screen I get a black unresponsive screen and have to kill the app. In both cases the project is not saved and I lose my work. Very frustrating.
