Pocket Beacon FAQ
Is Pocket Beacon free?
Yes, Pocket Beacon is completely free and it doesn't have any in-app purchases or subscriptions.
Is Pocket Beacon legit?
🤔 The Pocket Beacon app's quality is mixed. Some users are satisfied, while others report issues. Consider reading individual reviews for more context.
I love love love critical role and all the new content that comes along with a beacon subscription! It’s a great price and is well worth it imo. However, the app does need some work. In particular; the inability to minimize the window and still listen to or watch content while doing other things on your phone is pretty annoying, it would also be really nice to be able to download videos on beacon to watch offline.
2 little things
It’s a awesome app but I would be amazing if u could download videos to watch offline. Also be able to minimize it and get a small video on my phone. Other then that loving all the bonus content.
Not as functional as YT Premium
The interface is great and I love that I can control playback speed… but not being able to have it continue playing when I’m in another app or have my screen off means that it’s more useful on my phone to just use the YT app. :/ So kind of pointless as an app for me.
Listen only mode is buggy
Switching from video to “listen” freezes the app. Can’t lock my screen and keep listening unfortunately. Audio works fine through safari browser on beacon.tv. That’s said, audio only also doesn’t have timestamps, so can’t scrub to the right timestamp I want. Finally, if I listen to a certain amount on video mode and then switch to audio mode, it doesn’t preserve my timestamp - it starts the audio track from the beginning! (And vice versa - if I’m at minute 20 in audio and switch back to video, it won’t keep that spot.) Hopefully this gets ironed out soon! In the meantime I’ll continue listening via the podcasts app and safari browser.
Great! One small thing.
The app has been amazing so far, my only complaint (very small and more of a personal peeve) is the inability to minimize a video/watch outside of the app, would rate 4.5 stars but no 0.5’s on here so I did decide to round up!
Content is amazing. App needs some work.
I’m unable to use the “listen instead” option unless I listen from the very beginning of the episode. If jumping ahead in the episode it does not play any audio… buffering issue maybe? Back to Apple Podcasts until the bugs get squashed.
MORE CONTENT
would love an banner or checkmark-like icon that displays if you already watched a video on beacon though or a “keep watching where you left off” subsection or a bookmark feature
Poor podcast experience
Not much of a podcasting app when you can’t run it as a background app. App turns off every time I lock my screen which is frustrating.
Can’t adjust playback resolution
It’s on the menu, but still grayed out for me.
Not all of us have broadband. Some of us live in 240p because one bar of “4G” is our only connection to the outside world. Until I can lower resolution I’ve gotta stick to the website version.
Budding content with a Nat 1 app
Guys. It’s 2024. PiP/background play (for video and audio) is a necessity for a streaming app. At this point, I will not renew my membership unless this is added. This is a breaking feature IMO, and every review mentions this.
The content is great, but there also needs to be some way of having an “up next” sort of playlist - not just in this app but in the service as a whole. It’s hard to see what you have played and haven’t, and where you need to pick up from.
