Roland Zenbeats Reviews

Unintuitive with a bad UX.

espenandre on

Norway

The least intuitive music app I’ve ever come across. It has too many functions scrambled together on a tiny screen, you actually have to find where to route the audio before you get any sound, and when you finally get to record a part, you will have to figure out how to record the next instrument on top of this. All stuff that normally takes a second to figure out on any other DAW’s I’ve used.

The new v3 is unfortunate

ssinha2u on

Norway

Used to be my most favourite iOS daw. But since v3 it’s became practically unusable. Ugly UI design, waste of screen real estate by intruding unnecessary elements such as the new left sidebar, lack of UI themes, unresponsive keyboard scroll, bugs… And then, you need to pay for another v3 unlock even if you paid for v2 ultimate unlock. RIP Zenbeats.

a DAW that’s growing up to be a workhorse

von_KÜHL on

Norway

I used to own this app before Roland bought it. Good thing they did, because Zen has become a serious contender to Cubasis, NanoStudio & Auria Pro. The DAW has everything you need, really, plus a few extra tricks up it’s sleeve, like the module where you make your beats. It’s elegant, easy and very effective. More updates and bug fixes would be welcome, and I hope ZEN has come to stay on the scene. Full score.

App Is Not Recognizing My Roland Cloud Membership

selah256 on

United States

I signed up for a Roland Cloud Membership and Zenbeats is not recognizing my membership! I see the membership inside Roland Cloud Manager and have no problem using Zenology Pro inside Logic Pro X. No such luck trying to use any of my membership plugins inside Zenbeats for macOS or iOS. Also the user interface of the app does not offer the best user experience to say the least. After reaching out to Roland customer support my membership was made visible inside the app and I could view all my content. It’s really nice to have all the rich Roland sounds in the palm of my hands!

Too many issues, Work flow not intuitive imo *Roland developers hint , Ableton / Bitwig for ios , Feature request - live looper that sets tempo , Nobody like subscription based apps esp musicians *Updated 2 stars..if this becomes awesome someday i will update my review again. *Update v3 I gave it another go its way way better, 5 stars if there’s ever a looper that sets global tempo…top 3 daw on ios

Roland Blew It On This

ovrdrvn on

Paid for the unlock on all platforms from my iPad. I literally have nothing on iPad and incessant ads on top of it. If the app isn’t ready for prime time, why offer sales through it?!

Updates Needed

@Pauleon on

United States

This is a really nice app but there’s a few things that are essential in regards to workflow and vibe. 1.) Tempo can’t be changed while in Play Mode 2.) Session stops playing when pressing Save 3.) No note variation in Drum Beat Machine 4.) App Blocks audio while Screen Sharing 5.) Moving Notes in Piano Roll is kinda sketchy Overall, this is pretty cool for an on the go/idea recorder. Although, depending on experience Zen can be used as a great tool. The sounds are crisp as usual coming from Roland😏

Best DAW for iOS even post Logic - just needs multi thread

mehrathernot on

United States

I tried Logic for the iPad and it isn’t the same as Logic Pro X for desktop. I found a thread on audio bus that extolled the greatness of the little known Zenbeats by the amazing Roland, which had me skeptical but it was on sale so I bought the unlock and I am stunned. This is the best DAW on iOS and since its cross platform, you can argue the best round trip 1:1 DAW for Mac. The DAW has two things it needs: multi threading for the new multi core chips and Slightly better audio processing. I would simply just settle for Multi thread so that it can compete with Cubasis 3 and Logic.
