A Shame
It’s a shame that this promises to be a great app for listening to my music collection but unfortunately fails to deliver.
I understand that the Roon server should ideally be running at all times but after multiple occasions of opening the app to find I’ve either been logged out or am presented with a screen where Arc attempts to connect to the server but can’t because I’m away from home, I’m finding the experience very frustrating. I’ve downloaded tracks from my Roon library to Arc so surely I should be able to just open the app and start playing without this constant frustration.
Great sound but the app is not working 100%
Room is probably one of the best players and library managers that I found for my Mac. The sound is brilliant and it works pretty great with my Eversolo. But the mobile app is not working as the desktop does. On mobile is pretty unstable and some of the features are not working 100% . Try to play a radio station from any band or song and you will wait for something to happen but nothing happens. It’s a shame because as I said, the desktop app is great but if you compare ARC with other similar apps like PlexAmp, there is still some pathway to walk for ARC. I hope they will do it in a close future.
Potential to be the best
This has potential to be the best music player but the stability issues need fixing. It often stops while streaming songs, won’t play them at all or won’t open the library when I open the app. I set it to play uncompressed on Wi-Fi and 256 OPUS on 4G. I think this contributes to the freezing/ stops as the app can’t seem to switch from 1 signal over to the other without a full reset. I have an iPhone 15 PM and Roon Arc appears to be 1 of the overheating bug apps. Due to the instability of streaming, I tried to download approx 10GB of music via Arc. The iPhone got very hot on the screen, left edge, and near the lenses on the back. It also took over an hour which means my full library would take me days if it didn’t melt my phone. I am using an alternative music streaming app on iOS for now: very stable, quick downloads and my phone doesn’t even get warm when downloading. I will continue to use Roon on Mac as it is probably the best player on there. Roon Arc needs work.
Not there yet
Not a good experience so far. The CarPlay UI is hopeless and the app often tells me it has as poor connection even when it's on gigabit WiFi.
Almost there. Sort the woeful AppleCar Play for perfection
By far the biggest drawback, and unfortunately the biggest reason for me having this app is the Apple Car Play. It is so annoyingly bad that I invariably stop using it and turn to Spotify.
So close to being perfect apart from this and appreciate not everyone will use this function so based the rating on a general experience.
A good start, but far from perfect
This is a good move by Roon, and the straw-man is certainly there, but it’s really buggy and doesn’t integrate into Apple CarPlay quite as well as other apps do like Tidal or Spotify. Roon needs to focus on how people physically interact with the user interface to make this app great.
