Great experience
If you like traveling off the beaten path and seeing sights that the locals know, this is the app to use! Loved the north Big Island experience so much we canceled our chartered tours and downloaded 2 of the other Shaka guides. Fun adventure exploring the island at our own pace. Skipped parts we weren’t interested in and explored off road experiences that intrigued us. Really enjoyed the entire tour!!!
Soundtrack of our vacation
This app was the best addition to our vacation. I literally can’t recommend it enough. We used it on Oahu, Maui, Kauai, and big island. It kept us entertained on long parts of the drive and provided a lot of fun stops that we never would’ve found on our own. Plus the music really sets the right tone for the whole vacation. It is absolutely worth every penny.

The best way to see Hawai’i
I purchased the Hawaiian bundles for two separate family vacations. Kauai and the Big Island. All of the tours are fantastic and very accurate. Gray “Uncle Shaka” is a great story teller and the music is amazing. Plus the ability to pause or to start a tour at any point is a great feature. The low star reviews are clearly people who don’t read/listen to the instructions on the app and tours. This app is great and well worth the price. Plus being ad free on the tours makes that worth the price alone. Can’t wait to do more tours in Hawai’i and the Mainland!
Great Tour
We used the North Shore tour which started at Ko’Olina and enjoyed it so much! The music, the directions, the stops were great! We would have missed some great stops. We spent 6-7 hours with the tour and didn’t come close to finishing! Well worth the price!

Excellent Maui Bundle
Loved the self guided Maui tour bundle! Mostly used it for Road to Hana but also on West Maui a bit. The narrator is a little corny at times but I loved the way it was structured. Specifically I liked the reasonable number of recommendations along the tour route, with pointers on local spots to avoid to respect the local residents’ privacy. The history of Hawaii and Maui were the most valuable in my opinion to someone who doesn’t know the history. And the traditional Hawaii background music between stops/historical facts was the cherry on top. I’ll be looking to use this app for other vacations too!
Love Shaka!
We’ve used Shaka guide for both Big Island and Maui and love the experience, narration and ease of use. Even with no cell service we were able to listen, learn and experience things we would’ve otherwise missed.
Kauai North side tour lacking important directions
We really wanted to see where Gilligan’s Island was filmed but the app didn’t direct us there. Traveled through a neighborhood but absolutely no directions to the site. Pretty much a waste of $20+. Update: developer responded with an URL… so not helpful after you’ve purchased the app and left the island.
