Probably the best todo.txt app, but would benefit from updates for modern devices.
I think this app has the best approach to the todo.txt format on iOS.
There is (for me, at the date of this review, on iOS 16.3.1, iPhone 13 Pro Max) a bug with syncing via Google Drive. I use Drive because it can be used with little effort on my work computers, which run Linux. Dropbox, iCloud, etc, all take too much effort or aren’t compatible. New tasks added do not sync to my linked file on computers, and new tasks added on a computer do not sync back to the app. When I pull down to refresh, to request an immediate sync, the app closes. When I re-open it, nothing has updated.
I hope the developer is aware and able to address it, and it looks from the version history like that will be the case. Michael, feel free to reach out to me if you need any information from me to help diagnose this.
I think Swiftodo could do with some quality of life updates for newer iOS devices. The UI feels like it is from several major iOS releases ago, and does not support system features like automatic dark mode switching, which I find really lower user friction in apps that support it. I have tried to reach out via linkedin & twitter to make this feature request but haven’t heard back yet.
I would love to see some updated dark and light themes more fitting with recent versions of iOS, and the ability to automatically swap between dark and light modes along with the rest of the iOS system apps and most major modern apps that I use. Even Apple Shortcuts automation would be better than not having the option.
Other reviewers have mentioned support for widgets. I could add Siri, Apple Shortcuts and share sheet.
Bug report and feature requests aside, Swiftodo has all the filtering, searching, editing and todo.txt syntax support you could need. It does a good job in general and is fairly low friction in day-to-day use.
Really nice app
I’m really liking the app, good balance of ease of use vs functionality. Also has repeating tasks with repeat from completion date capability (so many apps don’t have this!).
I have found a small bug I think (relating to the “Separate task text” appearance option but can’t see any contact information on the website, hence this review here. Issue is if the “rec:” tag has a “+” in it then it doesn’t display correctly.
Excellent!!
I am a long time user of OmniFocus, and most respected todo/task managers. After many years I really now get the simplicity of a .txt todo app and the beauty of being in complete control. Your data can be passed via Dropbox in seconds to any platform. You can edit on any device and backup quickly. SwiftoDo is the best app I have found so far for my iPhone/iPad that has the right balance of simplicity and features that suits me(though I would love a note/memo addition) I highly recommend this app and also a great quick response from support is worth a mention.....thanks!
Best app available for todo.txt
Great app that covers a wide range of todo.txt functionality. A few minor issues that would make it 5 stars from me: - Can’t find a way to sort by priority, then by project. I’d like to see the list categorised by priority, and then sorted by project within each priority. Desktop apps like Sleek allow this - it is nice to see a few high priority items first, then some order to the jumbled mess of unprioritised items - With about 150 items, tapping edit file freezes for several seconds (on an A13) - Scroll bar is black on black in dark themes
Pretty wonderful app
Both this and the Mac app are pretty great. Almost feel like it has to be marketed as todo.txt editor else some reviewers seem to be comparing this to a general todo app
Great work! I hope you keep it going, it’s the only of it’s kind. :)
Just works!
I’ve played with the todo.txt format on and off for years, in between other task management tools. SwiftoDo looks to be a really good interface for working with that format. Clean, crisp, easy to set up and sufficiently flexible and powerful without getting in the way. Nice job—thank you!
A thing that would be extra-awesome to have: keyboard shortcuts support for iPad Pro :) Any plans?
Thanks!
Great for todo.txt
Fantastic todotxt implementation - would get 5 stars if it supported home screen widgets in ios 14
Switched from Gtasks to Swiftodo
And it works great for the “Next actions” list in a “getting things done” system. The other lists must be kept elsewhere (txt files on Dropbox alongside the todo.txt work fine, as they are not accessed so often, the Dropbox app is good enough)
Suggestion: interpret due dates so that we can see a “due in X days” note next to the actions.
Great interface for an open and cross-platform system
My previous system revolves around the wonderful Omnifocus but I needed something that would work on Windows and Linux machines as well as my Mac and iPhone.
SwiftDo is a brilliant way to manage my todo.txt which I can then access in various other ways on my other devices. A perfect example of a focussed, well crafted app.
Apple Watch support would be great and would be something I’d be willing to pay for (maybe $5 as a one off in app purchase? I dont know if that would make it viable for the dev).
A lot to love
Powerful but uncluttered - really like this app and it has quickly found its way to my home screen. Highly recommended.
My only - very small - criticism is that I don’t love the icon. Not particularly stylish in terms of font/colour/design, and to my mind undersells the great app.
