The Breathing App

Published by: Breathing App

Description

The Breathing App (TBA) original is inspired by Resonance Frequency—the scientific term that describes what happens when our heart rate, heart rate variability, blood pressure, and brainwave function align in a coherent wave. This occurs spontaneously when we breathe at a pace of five to seven breaths per minute, resulting in calm, restful alertness and other benefits.
About Resonance Frequency
The effects of resonance support the innate ability of our body, nervous system, and emotions to restore themselves. This is achieved by balancing the two complementary branches of the autonomic nervous system, which governs heart rate, blood pressure, digestion, respiration, and other automatic functions.
How is it possible for one breathing technique to do so much? The answer lies within our nervous system. By breathing at your resonance frequency, you enter into an even balance between the two branches of the autonomic nervous system:
The sympathetic branch, which moves us toward activity
The parasympathetic branch, which moves us toward rest
New Updates
Although TBA focuses on Resonance Frequency, we’ve added advanced ratios to expand your breath practice repertoire. These ratios also use our breathing sounds to guide you.
What’s in the App?
TBA includes:
2 Kids Ratios (Free)
4 Resonance Frequency Ratios (Free)
4 Focusing Breathing Ratios (Premium)
4 Energizing Breathing Ratios (Premium)
4 Calming Breathing Ratios (Premium)
4 Grounding Breathing Ratios (Premium)
Each breath group offers beginner through advanced practices to suit your breathing needs.
All breath practices can be done through both nostrils for normal breathing, or through one nostril at a time for alternate-nostril breathing, giving you flexibility in your practice.
Our breath sound feature, along with the expanded section on ratios, is a great teaching tool. Many of the included ratios were created with yoga and breath teachers in mind for use in classes.

The Breathing App Reviews

Loved it before the changes

FrancesBuxton on

United States

This was great before. Now they changed the animation, the sound was way smoother before. That was the best part. I liked how simple it was. I wish I could have left the old version. It didn’t even ask me if I wanted to change. Too many options and buttons now. Please bring it back!

Best breathing app

Simple, effective — has made a huge difference in my health.

Why did you ruin the app?

marc.cardwell on

I’ve used this app for YEARS, it was simple and free. They removed basic features and charge $44/year to get them back. No thanks. The UI is confusing, with the “< >” settings, good luck figuring out what to do. *edit to reply to dev* no long can I change the in/exhale values, they’re locked to your choices. It’s almost like you did no user testing (w/ the “tap <>…” and “set ball/night” what’s that even mean?). I see other reviewers feel the same, I even emailed to ask for the old app. No reply.

this is my favorite breathing app. i use it almost every morning. now: -app does not work in the background (closed app or closed phone) -app does not work with bluetooth. it just doesn’t play sound when connected to my JBL speaker.

$5/month for what used to be a great free app

Would be 5 stars except for the new update and the subscription model. I get that monetization helps to support developers, and I want to do that. But $5/month is obscene for a glorified timer. This app should be a $5 one time purchase at best.

1 step forward 2 steps back

JehyRobot on

I loved the app the way it was. Pros: 1. Nice Interface 2. More options for different breathing techniques Cons: 1. The app doesn’t run in the background like it use to. So when you lock your phone or switch apps the session terminates. 2. The default time limit of 30 minutes on 6/6 breathing was free, now there’s a paywall if you want a session longer than 20 minutes. I really loved this app, the cost of $5/month is a bit high imo. I believe a better price point would be $24/year. If you fix atleast the 1st con I’m willing to stay on this app.

I love this app!! I use it every morning. It’s simple and highly effective.

No Background Play ):

Anon Breather on

United States

Previous version of the app would play the tones in the background, meaning i could close the app/lock my screen or overlay my own music while hearing the guided breathing tone. Small feature that i really enjoyed and if it does not return then the app will feel much less seamless with how i actually use it.

Why mess with perfection?

HeywoodDjablome on

United States

This app is terrible now since the update, you used to be able to use the app in the background while music or videos were playing - even when the device is asleep. Now that feature is gone and there’s a weird pause between all the breaths, the breath ball is also glitchy and doesn’t sync up with the audio. This was the perfect app for breathing exercise and some goofball decided to mess with it and failed miserably.

Amazing

Refreshingly simple app that does exactly what I want and is easy to use.
